It seems like everyone here is talking a different language. Any where I can see what all these numbers people are typing mean? like 19/8 and EV and things like that.

I just put $50 on starz for my first ever deposit and I am now at $94 after playing about 6 games, and winning in all but 1, of $25 NL (.10/.25). I busted out of one game with AK, hit the K on the flop, while someone else with KQ hit their Q on the river after we were all-in. I generally only buy in with around $15 because my bankroll is not very high.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me.

I used to post on here some about 6 months ago, but took a break from poker.

CBAT, when you were here before did you read the posts on bankroll management? Cos that is your immediate priority.

I might have, but I don't really remember.

I mainly posted about my experiences at Turning Stone Casino because I hadn't been playing much online.

Well, you're vastly underrolled for $25NL, that's why i mention it. Seriously, this should be your first concern - you need to move down levels or put another $400 in your account (or at least be willing to do so, should I be necessary).

Read the BR management thread now, it'll explain it all much better than I can.

Still playing $25 NL tables.

I am now up to $181.49!

I plan to play $25NL until I get to about $400, then I may try out $50NL.

I only play the 6max tables, and seem to do very well.

Didnt read the bankroll management link, eh? You are in danger with <8 buyins at 6max, no doubt.

Yes, I read it. But I feel that me buying in at $15 in the $25 NL tables suites me just fine for now. I have been playing pretty consistent poker, and I probably have about 15 out of 20 winning sessions at the $25 NL tables.

That has no relevance to this thread.

You really need to learn about variance. It's not the end of the world that you're not rolled for the $25 games but when you're starting to play bigger stakes it can get really ugly if you're under rolled.

You are hot now, but you will cool down. All of the sudden your AA and KK will get busted by 2 7 os. You will lose boat over boat. Your 2 pr on the flop will lose to a set, etc. Nobody can win at the rate you are winning in the long run. Feels good now, but rest assured that you will go on a losing streak and probably lose your whole bankroll. "No, I'm different and better than that"...wishful thinking, but it happens to everyone so just be aware. Read the threads on bankroll management and "newbie circle of death".

I have just got here, played tournaments and SnGs to get my bankroll up but kept withdrawing. Eventually I got to the stage where I had to win just to be struggling, now I have to restart from the ground up with money and my play.

Moral? Every NL player goes bust, don't be arrogant enough to think you can slide through the cracks.

QFT. I've been around a while, and just went bust myself from playing at levels I wasn't properly rolled for.

I remember when I first read the BR management thread. It made sense, but I kind of glossed over it - I was ready to play!!! It wasn't really arrogance in my case, more of a "That's nice, now how much money can I win?" attitude.

Its really only much later that I realized how very important it is to play within your 'roll, and how seriously I should take BR mgmt if I want to keep moving up.

I hear you CBAT, and I stood in those very same shoes and thought those very same thoughts. I hope you will do yourself a favor and realize that the advice on this site is finely honed information from some very excellent and experienced poker players. They know of what they speak. If I had given them more credit, I'd be much richer by now.

Best of luck

Alright, thank you for the advice.

I plan on keeping the stakes low until I create a large bankroll.

I have extra money to deposit if I need to (like $4000 in my checking account, but I don't plan to use anywhere near half of that).

Thank you for the advice, and I plan to use it.

Stick where you are if you absolutly must (with 4k behind) but for the love of god dont move up to 50NL until you hit $1k in disposable bankroll.

Varience is a bitch.

Okay, sounds good.

My total profits equal $148.67.

I'm at 198.67 for my bankroll.
I took a nice beat in a $50 pot today.
Me: 6h7h
Other Guy: 8d8s

Flop: 5d Jc 9d
Check, Check.

Turn: 8c
I checked, he bet $1, I raised to $5, He reraised to $23.25, I called.

River: Jh

I lose about $50

But then I bought back in because it was a table full of fish, and I won that money back with a flush getting up to about $55 and then leaving.
