In the current World Championship Of Online Poker, the blinds increase every 30 minutes. I then thought to myself that this wasnt the greatest structure for the more skilled players as the blinds normally go up every 45 mins or 60 mins in a high buy in live tournament. I then realised that far more hands are played online in that space of time then in a live tournament. My question is whether or not 30 minutes online is equal to or better then one hour blind structures in live tournaments?

Blinds in the online world are about ending the game in a certain amount of time. To get you to another tourney. They have turbo, super turbo and deepstack tourneys to fit what you like. Ive played some where the blinds go up every 5 hands. The live game is the only game to be played so why rush, let the best players have the time to win.

That wasnt my question! my question is the value for the more skilled players say 5000 dollar internet tourny with 30 minute blinds against 5000 dollar live tourny with 45 minute blinds. Which format will allow you to play more hands at each level?

My guesstimates:
30 mins online is about 40 hands
45 mins live is about 25 hands
Live you can get better reads though, so its pretty close IMO. Live is much much more fun though.

Sorry, I failed to say It depends. I was trying to point out that it all depends on the actual structure.

Without actually pinpointing the structure in question how can a comparison be made. Hands live run between 30 and 40 , depending on dealers and table dynamics. Online is between 80 and a 100 hands an hour depending on tourney rules and buy-in. ( the higher the buy-in the faster the early stages, because of the fewer players in a hand) As for advantage. I definetly the higher the starting chips campareable to the speed of the blinds is most favorable, but again it all depends on the tourney, not the location live or online.
