new to table so no reads. I got beat by bottom trips twice yesterday so I was probably being too conservative on the river. I was paranoid. I was thinking he flopped a lucky straight or maybe higher trips.. Was the check on the river the right thing to do or should I have put him all in. In hindsight, he probably would've called. I have lost a couple of buy ins in the last couple of days and have decided that I need to hunker down and play cards. I just don't want to become pussified.

he raised the flop.... then he rasied the turn. he doesnt have 45.
I minraise the turn and then look to put him allin on the river.

definitely raise as much as you think he'll call on the river, i would never even think about folding a set at these limits except for obvious cases like 4 suited cards on board or something.

I would bet more on the flop, and I would definitly reraise the flop.
On the turn I would push his reraise

Yes, I think the .50 bet on the flop was pretty wimpy. Then he raised me and "took control" and then I started thinking he might have bigger trips or flopped a straight. I was trying to keep more people in the pot with my mini raise. I don't know if that was mistake or anything.

With 4 people seeing the flop and str8 draws on the board I would not try to keep too many people in the pot.
You are in a pretty good position, you got someone who obviously likes this flop, isolate him and try to get as many chips as you can into the pot.
If he has a higher set or he had 79 for a str8 I would pay him off, since msot times you are ahead.
He probably had T9 or similar and got overely attached to the hand

Villain only has $35. If i reraise the turn to $20 there will be $40 in the pot on the river and villain will only have about $15 left.
He calls that with anything hes come this far with unless it is a draw in which case he folds to any bet anyway.

Also, don't worry about a higher set. Nobody here will tell you to fold out of fear of a higher set. Of course I lost my stack yesterday to a higher set, but it's better than losing to somebody hitting a gutshot against you against all odds.

You made two mistakes here
1. You thought about a related hand where u got beat instead of judging this hand on its own merits
2. You sort-of slow played on a dangerous flop and put yourself in a position you didnt need to be.
Note: if you think he calls, get it all in on the turn.

The only way in which you should consider the previous hands to make decisions on a current (or on future) hands is how your opps played, not that they got lucky to beat you...

re-raise the flop; you don't want that heads-up. I don't mind your river check after that min-raise on the river with no reads. The flopped str8 is out there and a bad player could easily think the check raise will work on that river. The fact you did check shows that yoe realize you might have been beat which is good - the fact you didn't get all his money is bad... but it's more results oriented than anything else.
