I had this one in the stickied definitions thread but I think people might not be seeing it up there so I'll make a dedicated thread for this question ...
Being realtively new and having played mostly SnG ... can someone please confirm how the ring game terminology works ... eg 10nl, 25nl etc. I am assuming that this relates to no-limit max buyin ... and has no relation to the blinds.
I've just started playing micro on stars ... 0.01/0.02 blinds, $5 max buy in ... so does this mean I am playing 5nl ... or have I misunderstood the concept?
Sorry for the newb question, I just see this talked about all the time but have never actually seen it defined anywhere.

No question is a bad question!
You're right on with the max buyin. If your max buyin is $50, you're playing 50NL. Players usually call it that mostly because it's short and easy to say, and we usually always buy in for the max anyway so it's a good point of reference.
Blind structure has little to do with it, but almost always, the BB (big blind) will be 1/100th of the maximum buyin, so at the aforementioned 50NL you'd be playing with $0.25/$0.50 blinds.
