Hey, I'm 18, live in Europe and have another year of highschool before going to LA or NYC for college

I deposited into pokerstars in january ago 75 dollars, and have since then tried my luck and redeposited the same ammount twice after going broke twice..

I quit for a period of 2 or maybe even three months and said I'd never come back, but fate turned on me when I read an article on the internet saying poker isn't a game of luck and player's should be fixed on long term and not short term. I have been reading a lot lately and have decided to give poker another shot. I invested 200 dollars into poker by buying what was recommended an old article on pocketfives, it was called Pathways... But I can't post links or URL yet...

Since then, I have been reading a lot of internet articles, I'm planning on finishing reading all the pocketfives articles on that site, finished Ace on the River,(which actually helped a lot in the mental mental psychological side of the game), I'm currently watching cardrunner videos and articles and am reading a book called ''blink'''by Malcolm Gladwell that is a book about how to use and trust your instinct, which might have nothing to do with poker but I find interesting...

After that, I plan on reading Professional Poker by Mark Blade and then reading the other books in the linked article, I hope it's become noticeable to you, that I am serious about this and I do hope to make an investment out of this in the future...

My goal is to increase my extremely low bankroll of 50 dollars (I did not refill from last time I quit, I started from 35 dollars 4 days ago and have increased it to 50 dollars since). I'm playing at the smallest tables of 1c/2c with a max buy-in of 5 and my goal is to move to the next level (2.5c/5c ??) where I can buy-in with $10 once I get $150 (after that we'll see... I had longer plans but forgot and all those stats are on my home PC but I'm writing this at school). Before the reason I had to refill is because I was playing for fun, believed that this game was a lot more based on luck, looked at the short term results and got easily frustrated which caused me to play at higher stakes and after initially playing tight and getting some cash I would lose it all and refill... This time I dunno why but I feel much calmer and even enjoy taking bad beats in a way because I realize that fish are on the table.

I'd also like to assure you guys that although I have decided to pick up poker as a new hobby is not my main priority atm... It is simply one of several, outside of poker I go to the gym for my health, eat healthy, and am focussing now on picking and enterring college, I'm planning on visiting both NYC and LA this summer to see which city I prefer... One of the reasons I came back to poker, was because oftentimes I would get incredibly bored because I had nothing to do but watch movies and listen to music and I desperately needed something that could fill my time when I had nothing to do... I decided to fill that time with poker (and now with the summer holidays coming up I should have at least as much time).



OK, so that was my short poker life story... if any of you want to mentor me in any way (I dunno how but errm... I've read articles saying that filling yourself around succesful poker players will make me wanna be as good as you) then PM me and I'll pass my msn

hmm, also I was wonderring, everyone says that if you see a fish at your table then DO NOT leave and fight back the tiredness and try to take all his money... but yesterday I had a long losing session where I lost because I was too tired to make any bad decisions or I simply did not manage to focus... now considerring that at the micro stakes there will be a weak player on almost any table guaranteed wouldn't it simply be better for me to play when I feel like I am playing at my best... OK I just realized I answerred my own question...

another thing, a lot of articles say different things... I'm assuming a lot have bad information... I particularly don't like articles which tell me exactly how to play by the bookm because it seems too predictable... maybe if 8-tabling I could put myself on autopilot following that article but I doubt I'd make more money than if I were focussing on one or two players and could see and understand exactly how each diferent player plays... I think one thing I did before but don't do now is play by the book, I play better when I play by my instinct or gutm when I play by the book I'm on autopilot and find it so boring to play on 1 or 2 tables and end up 9 or 12 tabling because each decision is so simple to make, and the good players end up taking huge pots from me.... not fun!!!

dunno why but I feel like I understand a lot more than before but at the same time I know I'm not at the top of the world because I'm playing at the lowest stakes and realize that if I moved up even 2 or 3 levels I could potentially get massacred and that has helped me to keep my calm and composure...

Welcome to FTR... there are a number of regs here who provide great information. Post hands/tourneys for review and expect a lot of information... they will often give you more than what you wanted to hear, sometimes it will be hard to hear as well.

But look around, lots to gain insight from.

First of all, welcome to fTR. I am quite confident that you will find a plethora of knowledge here that can take your game to many levels above where it currently is.

As others have mentioned, in addition to reading all of the articles and books that you are currently reading you will gain a TON of knowledge just by reading posts in the forums and by posting hands that you feel were tricky and hearing other people's ideas. Doing these two things will allow you to take what you read in books and articles and apply that knowledge to specific situations.

Again, welcome and good luck at the tables.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

right now I'm playing around 2 hours a day (which I don't consider to be a lot), and reading on poker about another 2 hours + any other free time I have (I have a lot now, since I finished my AP and IB exams and only got 3 classes so basically during my frees at school if I ain't got much to do I study poker )

I finally got my parents to be OK with my new passion convincing them that this is nothing but a hobbie I love and one that can turn out to be profitable in the long run a bit like being a stockbroker (even though they both believe I'm gonna go broke...)

I should write a blog on this since I enjoy writing long posts here, could I do that?? dunno if you guys want the lowest of low micro stakes players to write a blog here

hmm, other than that, I've noticed that I'm nowhere near as addicted to poker as I was before... if that makes any sense... from january to march I was playing poker literally every second I woke up and went to bed right after finishing playing... I went on tilt easily and couldn't get off the table even though I knew I should've

Now I get off the table easily... and i'm happy when I do, I'm actually kinda freaked out, today I stopped playing because my 2 tables I was playing on no longer had any fish, I decided to change table but decided I was too bored to continue... never been too bored of poker before , hope I don't get too bored too often, I think it's my changed mentality that now I'm playing to win money, before I wanted to win money but would play emotionally and take things personally...

I can't wait until I get a long cold run of cards and I wanna see how I deal with it ^^

There is a hand converter over on the left in the links under Poker Tools, you can just paste hand histories in there and it will convert them.

FYI: You'll probably need to switch the format to 'FlopTurnRiver Cards' too since they're emoticons and you need a certain number of posts to post the images for the other format (I'm new too, I just had to do that. )
