first time poster here so go easy on me. Tried playing online 4 years ago lost $250 + 150 bonus pretty fast. Started to play in free roles in the last year and won a couple bucks here and there (2000+ people) finally won one for $50.00. So heres what happened. was playing in $3-10 tourneys trying to figure out how people play, different time limits, some mulity tables too. I was doing pretty good made money in alot of tournys By playing tight " Phil helmuth style starting hands" was getting called alot but just figured it was bad players, good for me i thought. Got my stack to 300, back down, back up, am at $220, played in at least 100 or more tournys. I was getting to alot of money spots but finding myself short stacked or the blinds getting too high. i needed to play more hands but heres the prob i get called too often people seem to think im bluffing all the time, or they want to out play me or somthing, even check raises being called alot. i play tight but you cant always get the great hands and somtimes you get out drawn. Heres the problem im playing this way cause i seem to get called down alot, and outdrawn or rivered. Ive tried to be more aggressive, see more flops but if i limp someone will raise, and if i raise im getting called. I dont think im playing poor ,ill throw the odd raise in out of position and ill protect my blind when needed. I cant figure out the problem. Am i grasping at staws with this but it realy seems to be happing.
Could my name be getting people to think they want to outplay me or that they want to beat me. I picked the name Pitbozz cause thats what i was doing at the time not cause i think i know it all about poker. Do you think the name could effect peoples play?

More likely you are making mistakes but you are unaware of them.

I never heard of any player who acts accordig to villians name. It is either your game or variance.
Post intersting hands
read the stickies
play agressively on the bubble. Sng Bubble is raise or fold game, there are very rare example where calling is the correct move.
Be glad you are making and not losing money this early

I find that normal girl's names (i.e. Nicola84 or something, not ones like sexystunnaxxx or whatever) often get a different reaction from players - people become "chivalrous" and it can make them play less aggressively against them. But other than that I'm not sure what difference names make.

You're playing in $3 tourneys. People aren't playing back at you. They're playing back at everyone because they're stupid. Play better cards and own them. Don't bluff. Bet your real hands.

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

The only time a screenname affects me is if it's got the word "Fish" in it, because then they're guaranteed to be a fairly experienced player.
Advice = see above.

Of course your name matters. Like that one guy on party who's named HalvSameSuxDik4Ca$h tilts me all the time. Oh, how I loathe him..
Seriously, play better (didn't read other replies, but I take it that's the general consensus).

Beelzebub (pronounced BE-ELL-ZEH-BUB) is the right hand man to the prince of darkness, one of his head demons.
Beelzeboz0 is based from a Bill Hick's stand-up routine.

im am only playing good cards because of being called so much, but you still have to steal the odd blinds and take riskes when timing is right. I really think people are calling cause they think "hes a pitboss hes trying to outplay me or bluff me ill stay in and try to catch the river he probley bluffing anyways and i got a mirical out " thing is i dont really bluff and sit out till i get decent hands. you just dont get great hands often enough to conteract the bad beats the fish are catching on me. If im not getting respect when i raise its not because of me playing too many pots (im tight and dont play enough anyways probley). might not be raising enough usally around 3 times the blind pre flop more if lots of limpers.

So you guy think its nothing ok. Can't change it anyways. I know my play can always use some improvement . I've always been more of a casino player then on-line. Played mostly limit, and somepot limit with a few no-limit tourneys at the casino but tourneys dont happen to much.
I like the convenence of online play sit-go 20+people and the multi tables.
I need to get a tracker or, somthing, i guess. It all seems a little much, and alot of time to be a break even or better on-line player.
So i have to look into the tracking my play more and reviewing play.
calculating odds and things in my head where my advantage at the table with these trackers and odds caculators it seems like alot to do. Im not sure how many people are useing these things im sure reviewing would help if i had the time.

I never look at the names or avatars. Just the numbers around them. I'd be suprised if most seen anything but the board cards until 25NL.

Mate, think of it this way - about 50% of online poker players use names which have something to do with poker, whether it's a simple reference (stra1ghtflush, Iluvpokah), a boast (omgpokergenius, PwningYoRockets), self-deprecation (PokerATM, QHigh2DaRiver, anything with fish in it) - do you ever thinking "right, that asshole TakingYour$$$ in seat 3 must be an arrogant maniac, I'm going to re-raise every time he raises"? I very much doubt it.
