 This was only the 3rd hand I played, so no reads. I hate losing a stack early, but it's been happenning lately. I took this as a cooler and did not go on tilt. I recovered for a small profit. But, if I played bad, I want to know.

I realize that if I was going to play this hand that I probably should have bet PF. That might have got him off his pp.

SB ($9.15)
BB ($4.55)
UTG ($6.25)
MP ($5.60)
CO ($8.45)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 10, Q
UTG calls $0.10, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.10, SB calls $0.05, BB checks

Flop: ($0.40) 6, 9, 5 (4 players)
SB bets $0.40, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.40

Turn: ($1.20) J (2 players)
SB bets $1.20, Hero calls $1.20

I figured that I had 15 outs here, so I called the Turn bet. The river card seemed good, so I called his shove.

River: ($3.60) J (2 players)
SB bets $7.45 (All-In), Hero calls $7.45

Total pot: $18.50 | Rake: $0.90

 It's unlikely he backed into trips... and other than that I can't figure out much that you can beat.

yeah, I'm gonna go with bad play.

Now, had you been more aggressive on the flop with the Flush Draw, maybe gotten it AI on the Turn, I'd have called it a cooler.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

The ninth nuts? Is my flush really that bad? I would think that "at this level" he could be betting an overpair. Even if the board had not paired on the river, he's still going to continue betting his set, most likely. At least tell me it would have been a big laydown. There was a recent post here where betting every street and calling an AI with an overpair was collectively (by the regs) thought to be a standard play.

Well, I called it a cooler because the same card that made my hand gave villian the nuts. I guess it's the wrong term to use.

Thanks for the input everyone. I may make dumb plays but with FTR's help, I'll be able to minimize them.

w/o seeing the other hand I would guess it was a completely different situation as we were being bet into on this hand. People at this level are typically incapable of overbet shoving so much money as a bluff, and other ppl (you included at the moment) are incapable of folding like the 10th nuts here for a 2xpot shove. Yea, your hand is crushed by his river shoving range because he'll:

a. rarely have trip jacks after he bet the flop and the Jd fell on the river
b. rarely have bet the turn with/out 2pr (J9) a set or a straight
c. would never shove the river when the board pairs and the flush comes in with a straight or a hand like 56

 A good exercise is to write down the hands that you think he would play like this - preflop, on the flop, on the turn, on the river. Then devide them into those that you beat and those that have you beat. This is what you should be thinking about every time you have to make a decition like that.
