I'm still a complete beginner - I've thrown away about £200 now over the last two weeks and although I've had the odd win, I know I'm rubbish. I've finished site/bonus hopping and have settled on littlewoodspoker.com.

Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know that I really suck, so if you see Satan1974 playing online, come and take all my money! I've read pages and pages of posts on here so hopefully I might get a positive swing in the near future...

Try playing lower stakes where the other players suck too. You cant lose 200 pounds if your are playing .01/.02 (im not sure what the equivalent in pounds is).

Playing now: $10/10/20 - $20/40 NL live, $10/20 NL full ring online, $10/20 NL 6-max online, $20/40 FL 6-max online, $100/200 FL live
Goal: $125000 for $25/50 NL live

 On the off-chance that Satan is not blatantly spamming......

#1: Play at a bigger site where you have more tables to choose from. Getting the right table makes it a lot easier to win money.

#2: Play lower stakes, like Spino1i said.

#3: I assume that I'm a typical beginner, losing my first 5 deposits (~$300.00) before I managed to turn things around and started winning. There's a learning curve. As long as you're reading up (books, here, whatever) and taking it seriously, you will likely turn things around soon.

Thanks EasyT and Spin10i. It wasn't a blatant spam, i am a genuine eager poker player. I already feel that I'm improving and although I don't claim to be even 1% as good as most of the people on this site, I feel that my game is improving all the time and it's giving me hope. I am staying away from "normal" games (not sure what the proper term for this is, ring game perhaps?) where I can keep rebuying and putting more money in. I've found that my forte is Single table and Multi table NL tournaments.

I'm sticking to the very low buyins (£1.00 + £0.20p) but am managing to limp in to a cash place enough times to be breaking even, nearly. In single tables, I keep coming 4th or 3rd most times - 3rd pays back £2.00 for my £1.20 entry but I'm learning loads.

Last night I played another multi table tournament and came 11th out of 167 players, with 10th spot being needed for a cash payout - gutted!

Anyway, I'm not a spammer, WILL be on here a fair bit (I hope!), and have just ordered my copy of "Harrington on Hold'em volume 1" as recommended on this site.

Wish me luck (actually that's probably a bad thing to say isn't it...).

Wish me success in my poker learning, and thanks for this free poker forum which I'm extremely glad I fumbled upon.

Your strategy to play SnGs and MTTs is solid. Stick to what you know/do best. Once you start beating that game consistently, you can either move up to a higher stake, or take some of your winnings to learn a new game (ring).

Gotta say it again, though: You should consider moving your money to a site with more traffic. Get Neteller if you don't have it. This will take a few days to set up/register, but then you can move your money around for free at most sites.
The best site for SnGs and MTTs is probably PokerStars. They have lots of low limit tournaments ($1 buy-in MTTs every hour gets several hundred entrants). Stars is also one of the few sites where you can actually clear bonuses by playing tounaments/SNGs. At most sites, only ring games count toward bonus $.
Don't ignore the bonuses, Satan. The bonuses will keep you afloat while you learn. Get current bonus details in the Online Poker Roooms tab.

As said above your strategy is sound, and learning from this site is so invaluable.
Just remember that you wont win a stack load in a few weeks, possibly only break even after a few months but in all that time you learn, as everybody still learns no matter how much they play and have played.
Just stay positive do your homework and learn the game bit by bit. Hopefully it will eventually pay off, then you can repost about how well you doing

Thanks again guys, I feel welcome and at home already. Can't wait for my book to arrive, in the meantime I'm sticking to the £1.00 SNG's and still doing pretty well. This morning I joined one, lost my internet connection for an hour, logged back on to find out I had come 3rd and won £2.00. Makes me wonder if I should try this tactic more often!!

Tell me about it - it was a very cheap (in fact profitable, if only £0.80p) lesson and has taught me exactly that. If I ever come 5th or worse in a £1.00 single table, I know I've played very very badly.

Just played another 2 £1.20 games, finished 4th (£0) then 2nd (£3.00), so up another £0.60p. I know it's miniscule, but later this evening I will try a £3.60 single table with payouts of £15/£9/£6 for the first three places - just to see how much different the next level up is, to give me an idea how bad I really am

Also, just received the "your book has been dispatched" email from Amazon so my copy of Harrington on Hold'em should be with me either tomorrow or Monday

Satan: Don't be too anxious to jump up the stakes to #3+.60 unless you plan to re-deposit again soon. If you're g0ing to ignore everyones good advice, I for one am going to stop trying to help.

Im reading that book atm and it has alot of good tips and helped me alot.
I started playing like a month and a half ago and im starting to get even,im not losing money,not winning either,but are improving everyday.
I wish u good luck in the future with ur poker games and welcome to the forums

I made the mistake of not reading the advice on a site like this about br and playing the right limits etc. Cost me nicely.[/quote]

Hey chill out It was only a thought... I will stick on the £1.20 tables for the time being. I've played another 9 single table £1.20's since my last post (was up until 3am then started again at 8am!). Results below. I started the BR at £8 (I'm due to reload soon, just seeing how far my inital £25 gets me!). Each game costs £1.20 to enter so I will take this away from any winnings (which are 1st=£5/2nd=£3/3rd=£2).

I was the BB, so checked my 6h8h. Flop comes - 2h3h4h. Turn, 5h. After some raising and calling, and eventual folding, me and one other person left. He went all in, I called. He showed his Ace of hearts (straight flush A->5), I beat him with my straight flush, 2->6. He wasn't too impressed!

Anyway, I now have my Harrington book infront of me that arrived this morning, so I'm going to switch the PC off and read this for the next few hours. I'll speak to you all later - and once again, thanks for the site and the advice so far!
