First coaching session done! And things have settled in my head now. Quicker than I thought they would.

Writing down what I remembered while playing a game helped. Remember here guys; I am a fish. Complete fish. I now have the confidence to write in a forum while the game ticks over, as it is now!

A trend is already developing. Pre-coaching I would make a fair few small wins and then lose a great big pile of chips. Rinse and repeat. The few small wins were not enough to make up for the big losses.

Now I am making a fair few small losses but rarely bigger than the blind and a couple of very big wins.

I am having fun now without the huge adrenalin rush I was getting from getting myself in a sticky spot, at least once per session. That's a loss I can bear!

    What did we cover?

I am a complete beginner. Remember that!

So we covered position, pre-flop hand selection and a bit about how to raise and stuff like that.

I learned some very clean and clear lessons.

More importantly than that, in the chit and the chat, I started to pick up a mindset. And this is the clever part. I did not pick up bikes's mindset - because that would have sunk me. I was shown a mindset that would work well for me at my level.

Criticisms? Only one, really. Terminology. I did not understand everything bikes said. (He was frank enough to say that it was a long time since he had tutored a complete noob). But I understood enough to know when to ask for clarification for better understanding and when to leave it to focus on the stuff I needed to focus on.

As for the 'feel' of the lesson - completely at ease. Calm, friendly and humoured atmosphere.

I don't think it will be a question of if I will be back, but one of getting best value for the lesson I have already have before I do.

What I think I have already walked away with is a sense of foundation.

But I then remind myself of perhaps the strongest lesson (and I paraphrase):

'At your level everyone on the table is rubbish. Including you. (No disrespect).'

OK, so while I am typing this I am doing better than I have ever done before (already), but that is a lesson I want to hear repeated.

I reckon there is one scenario in which I will AUTOMATICALLY take on a few coaching sessions - when I decide to go up a level in the stakes.

To everyone who's pmed me over the last few days I'd like to apologize for the delayed response. My health has been really poor lately and I'll get to answering any questions asap.

    Bump.

I bought a 5-hour package from Bikes and after only a few of those hours I have already seen solid improvements in my game. He pointed out some preflop mistakes I was making and some big leaks postflop.

I was already a winning player at 10NL (pre-Black Friday I was winning at 50NL), and I was hoping that Bikes' coaching could help me shake the rust off my game and start laying the foundation for stronger play as I move up through the stakes again.

He was definitely able to meet those goals and I look forward to more coaching sessions from him.

FYI -- the first session was an hour long sweat so he could see how I currently play. Then he did a database review to find/fix some of my bigger leaks.

    Bikes-

What would suggest as a schedule for a package deal?
i.e do you suggest looking at HHs first or sweat a session first?

yo, people have gotten a wide variety of different things and everyone seems to have enjoyed what they got from w/e format they wanted.

if i had to recommend a format it would be 5 hours,

1 hour sweat, this is mostly for me to gain some kind of grasp of where you are at in poker and to point out any leaks that may come up during the hour.
2 hours to go through your last 5-10k hands or so
1-2 hours to explain to you where how and why you are leaking monies. specifically as it pertains to your thought processes so it's just not me spoonfeeding what to do but why you should be doing it.
1 hour sweat to finish to it off.

so that may be 6 hours but w/e it's pretty std for what i run for the 5 hour thingy. i have a genuine interest in coaching people because it's a lot of fun for me tbh.

oh i would highly highly highly recommend you have a mic because it takes so much longer to to communicate if you don't have one =(

    Oh Hey!

I'm done with coaching for now. I'm trying to get stuff together for a move and once I do move I really won't have nearly as much time or desire to coach anymore. If you have hours still, they are good for a lifetime as I said =) so no need to panic or feel the need to snap use them.

That all being said, if you want to book hours for the future within the next 36 hours or so go for it as it seems pretty uncool if you were thinking about doing so. As previously stated hours are good forever so use them whenever you want to. If I get too much overload I'll probably stop taking hours before the 36 is up but I don't foresee that being a problem.

I'd like to thank all my students for putting their faith in me without graphs and what not and truly hope you felt your time with me was well spent. =)

This really is too bad. This level coaching for such a price is worth gold IMHO

I hope you can start coaching again after I get a less sh*tty internet connection

I had a 2 hour session with bikes this afternoon. In spite of his threats of violence and vulgarity before we got started, he was 100% professional (and there was only a little blood). I would definitely do another session with him once I've had a chance to practice the things we went over today.

bump. I am currently not taking new students atm.

To all my current students, your hours are good for a lifetime as I guaranteed. In addition to all that I acknowledge that it's been about 2 months since I've played any poker other than live so to that end if you want some sweats that don't count against your hours it's on me and it will help me shake off a slight bit of rust and help you cause sweats are always +EV from better players. and if you don't think i'm a better player its always +EV from worse players as well, you get to understand inferior player thought processes and use it against them.

you have my skype so get at me, and if i'm online and not busy I will help. to the end of me being busy, if you give me an hour warning i will never be busy unless food and if you send me a message and have plenty of time and i'm at my computer i will never be busy for longer than an hour and will be able to sweat when i finish w/e i am doing.
