I was reading on the 2+2 forums and someone said the above. Is this true?
Just wondering how relevent HOH is to cash games

I used to think this before I had played much cash (well, I had played 10,000 hands of 5NL before playing SNGs but that doesn't really count), but after another ~20,000 hands of 25 NL (still playing like a donk) I now realise it isn't true.
You have to play tighter in SNGs than in cash, even at the early levels when the stack:blind ratio is similar because of one simple fact: you can't reload in a SNG but you can in a cash game. This means that the effective stack sizes in SNGs are much shallower than those in cash games.
For example, in cash games it is often correct to call raises in position with hands like SCs because of a) implied odds and b) you can reload if you lose. In SNGs I would almost never call a raise in position with SCs unless there were a whole bunch of cold callers of the raise.
For cash game play, read NL Hold'em Theory and Practice, that's as good as it gets as far as books are concerned IMO.

cash games are VERY different. whoever said that may be stooopid. check your source.
cash games require much more patience to pick spots. they are generally tighter, and a bit more straightforward (not as much bluffing). the blinds never go up, so, nobody is "forced" to make moves unless they choose to.

more so, early on, but i still dont agree 100%. the above still holds true.

I found HOH incredibly helpful to my cash game. That said, I had ample experience of both cash and sng when I read it, and I was able to apply its wisdom for the most part appropriately.

If you're new to poker HOH is still a good read. He talks about value betting, pot/implied odds, etc. There is nothing about bluffing in the first book, which is about all you need to be moderately successful at low limits.
The bet sizes are different, they should be bigger in cash than a tourney (e.g. he suggests 1/2-3/4 bets on the flop, when it should be 3/4-full in cash)

also if you're new to poker HOH will help you start 'getting' ToP/NLT&H. HOH really just simplifies these two and appiles them specifically to tourneys, esp vol 1.

Cash games are similar to early deep stack MTT play i reckon, but not exactly the same. And there's definitely differences between non-deep stack early tournament play and cash games.

- You can rebuy in a cash game
- There's not much point spending 30 mins putting down an image for yourself if you just get moved anyway.
- You're much happier pushing small edges in cash because you're not out if you lose.
