I dont know what its called but ive heard about it u take the bets u got in the pot and divide it by odds or some shit. Im really good at math so just tell me and ill catch on ..
isn't it like say i got 10 bucks in the pot already and its 40 bucks another guy calls 10 , so i would have 20 bucks into a 50 dollar pot... 20/50=40% if i called and say i had 12 outs either hiting on river/turn so thats 45% .. thats means i put 40% into the pot and have a 45% chance of hitting it so my odds are better then the pot so i should make the bet...i think i got it a lil' bit not quite sure..
id appreciate the help.........

Yes, pot odds are the odds that you are getting to call a bet when you factor in the size that you must bet in relation to the size of the pot you might win compared to your chances of winning. If your chances of winning are better than the pot odds then you must call. If you must bet $10 and the pot is $50 then you are getting 5 to 1 on your bet. If you have a flush draw then your chances of making that flush draw with one card left are 4.22 to 1 against it (5 card draw scenario from the theory of poker). Since you're getting 5 to 1 for the amount of money you will win with a chance chances of winning being 4.22 to 1 then it is correct to call. If there was 60 dollars in the pot, but you had to pay 20 then the pot odds would be 3 to 1 against you and you would not call with a flush draw.
Pot odds discount things like implied odd, which are odds that take future betting into account. A situation where one of you might be all-in would be a situation that relied only on pot odds.

The other way to look at it is through percentages if you dont like looking at the odds. The chance of hitting the flush on the turn or river is 35%. Compare that with the size of the pot in relation to the size of the bet needed to call. A $1 bet in a pot of $5 would yield 20%. Your chances for hitting the flush, 35% are greater than 20% so the correct action would be to call. However, it is useful to take into account the future actions of players including future betting and calling. Hope this helps and my info is correct.

Just remember, in terms of pot odds, you don't count money you already put in the pot. That money isn't yours anymore! So in the example you gave it would count as 5:1 not 5:2.
Implied odds are pretty touchy and it's a bit of a guessing game and it's about how well you know the other players at the table. If you call, is the next guy going to raise you? Is the guy after him going to go all-in? What about on the turn or on the river? Fun stuff.
