Hi there i'm new to the forum and poker in general. Couldn't find much on the search button so it's just a quick question.

After raising preflop against 1-2 opponents, is it always wise/the best decision to c-bet? It usually works well for me especially with only 1 opponent even when I don't hit the flop. I guess it's also a nice way of trying to find out where you are post-flop when big cards hit.

Such as before when I had 5s6s and the flop was Ks2dJc and I put out a nice c-bet after a check and he folded.

Is it always the right thing to do though? It seems to work well.

C-betting definitely is an important part of your poker game. It shouldn't, however, be something you do automatically. It depends on a lot of things, including but not limited to:
*Flop texture
*Opponent (aggro/passive)
*Your image
*Your range

Think of it this way: when you put in the last raise preflop, you have on average stronger cards than your opponent because he ended up calling and not reraising you. In general that means you'll have more high cards and high pairs than your opponent. A cbet is one way of continuing to show strength you have shown preflop. But it's not the only way to do this.

Find out how your opponents react to a cbet. Some people expect it and call it a lot, some people raise cbets. Against those people you need to cbet less. But a lot of weak players will only call when they have a piece of the flop. When someone is playing this way, it's profitable to cbet ANY flop.

So weighing the factors Gobbatino listed you should try to make the best decision. And holy shit spoon is bad.
