I think I may be surrendering my button too easily pf, but I am not sure. How are others playing their button? I am talking mainly about facing a single raise.

What range are you calling with, reraising with, and against what type of player. I will occasionally call w/ a suited connector if there is already a caller, but will seldom be the first caller with that type of hand vs an early position raiser.

My button is winning (so far, small sample), and it is the position that I play the most hands from , but I am thinking that I could be getting more out of it.

any thoughts would be appreciated

First, it depends on the raiser. You are looking to put your one opponent on a range based on previous action, and if your cards are on the higher end of that range or higher, you can mix re-raising and calling. Suited connectors aren't generally great to play head's up. However, small pairs make for great fun if you have a chance to win at least 10x the called raise.

If you are good at sensing weakness and controlling pot size, you can call more speculative hands and try to out flop them or take pots away from those who give up on the turn too easily. I once heard Daniel Negraneu talk about how, every so often, he choses a session to play EVERY hand from CO/LP and just practices reading opponents, looking to push them off hands, or else controlling the action.

BTW--you should win on the button, or you'll definitely be a loser overall.

there are a few situations that I am not quite sure what to look for in deciding how to play. Here's one

MP opens for standard raise, folds to me OTB w/ AQo. The question is, do I reraise as I most likely have the best hand, or do I call and use the button to try to extract out of a presumably weaker hand/steal when the opportunity presents itself.

I realize this is extremely dependent on the situation, but the question is, what factors are you taking into account in making this decision?

You don't want to scare the AJ that opened by reraising, but you also don't want to only play a large pot against better hands.

I have rambled enough for now, but hopefully something in there made enough sense for someone to understand what I am trying to get at.

Opponent's range.

I don't think you want to play very large pots very often with AQ, since you'll usually end up with a top-pairish type hand or no hand at all.
