When we say we want to have 20 or 30 or X number of BIs to play at a particular stake to be properly rolled for it, I'm a little confused as to what money to count as part of my BR.
I'm a college student, and my tuition/room/board is paid for, so I consider all of my spending money to be the size of my BR, even though not all of it is deposited in my online poker account.
Does that sound right? Or should I only consider the money I deposit to be my BR.
I know it probably sounds like a stupid question, but it changes what stakes I should appropriately be playing at.
EDIT: Another quick question. I just got PT a couple weeks ago, and discovered that I am beating 6max 50NL at 5PTBB/100 over at 20k hand sample. I know a lot of the good players on this site would beat 50NL by way more than that. Like any other conscious poker player, I am trying to improve so that I will play more profitably, but with my current stats should I be considering moving up or down (assuming I am properly rolled for it)?

I'm a noob myself, but my answers to your questions would be:
1) I would say your BR is whatever money you have available right now that you are prepared to risk (and possibly lose) playing poker with, no matter where it is sitting at any particular time. Most would have it deposited, but you don't necessarily need to because you shouldn't be playing with more than 5-10% at any one time anyway.
I wouldn't include any money you think you might get but don't have yet, or that you can't afford to lose. You need to eat, drink, catch public transport, go out, etc, right? Don't include that. For me, I took $50 as my first (and only) deposit and that (whatever I build it into) is my roll.
2) There have been plenty of opinions expressed on this, but my view is that you move up when you have the roll AND you are confident you can comfortably beat the level you're leaving. I think the second part varies from player to player. 5ptBB/100 over 20K suggests you're probably ready to at least take some shots at the next level if you have the roll. I would. Remember if you find you're not comfortable, you can move back down again.
One good piece of advice I read (can't remember who or where) was that if you have the roll but aren't happy with your winrate at the lower level, set yourself another 10K or 20K or whatever hands at that level and try to beat it for more. If you don't improve enough, do it again. Move up when you're happy with it.
Hope that helps.

Wow. I just had a really hot session.
17.72PTBB/100 for 1000 hands. This feel pretty sick. I think I'll take a shot soon.

take a shot, allow yourself five buy-ins - if you lose that then drop down.
20k hands is nothing, remember that!

I've been wanting to play poker game online but I'm too shy because my friends are good in this game. I still have time to study more on this game so that I can invite my friends to play poker with me. Hope guys I can learn from you and you would give information on the terms that were used in this game. Thanks...
