I've noticed a trend (read: I might be deceiving myself, or falling victim to variance): it seems like I make the most money when I'm new to a table, and after that the gains slow down.

Anyone else notice something similar? I'd describe it as the table is willing to try bluffs more against a new player, and if you've got the goods (or the guts) to call you can see a quick early gain.

Or, it could be a fluke...

I've noticed the opposite. I assume it's just variance.

i think the online rooms are set up this way - I'm not kidding - At almost all new tables i go sit down, I will win a big hand in the 1st 5 hands (or get a big hand and just not get called) - I also notice when i've been sitting a while and a new person comes and joins, they tend to win a big hand very soon - I try not to be superstitious, but i've seen it so many times where a new guy will win his 1st hand - it's almost a welcome to the table hand for them...I play more Short handed, so maybe it's the 1/6 chance i'm always seeing...whatever it is, I have noticed in a lot - so much that I was going to post this exact type of question....but i figured i would be seen as an idiot and not taken seriously...Do you feel that way?

kidding!

I find that winning monster pots is essentially random (with respect to how long I've been at a table), but winning tends to happen after I get a feel for how things are going.
