I am not sure when I started using this pattern but it works well to get some one to fold on the river.
(I often use it when on a draw and I miss.)

Preflop - Medium Bet (2xBB or 3xBB)
Flop - Medium Bet (2xBB or 3xBB)
Turn - Check
River - Bet Half Pot if everyone else has Checked the Turn

It seems like people fold over 80% of the time when I follow this pattern. I feel that people think I was trying to set a trap on the turn and now am betting to get some money for my hand.
(Also, I find if I make too big of a bet, people think I am bluffing or trying to steal the pot and call my bet.)

Has anyone else used this pattern? Thoughts?

Not always. It totally depends on the texture of the flop, your position, the previous behavior of your opponent, etc.

I find that people love calling here with middle pair on an innocuous flop 'cause they put you on big cards. I've tried this bluff many times, and in my experience it can be -EV, unless you utilize scare cards or know your opponent well.

If you are up against a tried and true nit, def go for it. But against semi-aware players or calling stations you are often donating chips.

When opponent is chasing against you, most value is GAINED on the turn.

I agree with both of your logic. Which is why I am surprised it works so well for me.

I guess it must just work for me because:

1. I play a tight game.
2. If there is a raise on the turn, I fold cause I have nothing anyway.
3. I don't use it 3 times in a row, just once in awhile.

or more likely

4. I am just on some insane positive variance. LOL

OH NO

From your flop action alone, i know you've wiffed this hard time and it would take a really wierd turn and river to convince me you've got something. And i'm probably just taking this off of you on the turn.

This might work against people just playing your cards drawing or playing around with 2nd pair no kicker, but dont ever pull lines where you bet 2bb~3bb on a flop...

You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.
