Hi Guys, Dave Here Again... I Have Just Finished Playing My Latest Game Of Poker To Date ''AND I WON!''... Until Now My Luck Has Been About 50-50, I Started Playing At Poker Stars About 1 Week Ago, And Untill Now I Still Had More Or Less My Original $20 Investment... However, After Just Having Finished My Last Game I Am Now Up To $28 After Wining 2 Games In A Row, And I Believe That I Owe This All To 1 Guy That Told Me A Nice Bit Of Advice... I Believed My Game To Be Quite Tight, Yet Agressive... I Used To Fold A Large Percentage Of Hands And Only Call The Ones I Thought To Be The Best, Once I Got A Good Hand I'd Play It Agressivley, This To Me Ment Folding Hands Like 3/7 Off Suit, And Calling Or Raising With Hands Like K/T Suited... Despite This I Was Still Calling A Large Amount Of Very Bad Hands... Like 4/5 Suited, Just Because They Was Suited, They Rareley Paid Off And When They Did Flop Me A Result I Was Getting Beaten About 40% Of The Time... Anyway, This Kind Guy ''After Having Beaten Me And Taken My Cash'' Told Me That I Had The Right Idea, But That I Was Not Playing My Best Cards... He Told Me, Quote: You Realy Only Want To Play The Top 20% Pre-flop Hands... Such As, AA / AKs / Ako / KK / QQ / JJ Etc... So, I Thought About It And Remembered Learning About A Program Called Pokerstove From FlopTurnRiver.Com, I Went To The Pokerstove Website And Got The Software, I Looked Up The Top 20% Of Hands, And Started Using This As The Basis Of My Pre Folop Bets, At First My Cash Was Eaten Away By The Blinds, My $1 Investment Was Down To 0.86c... Then My Cards Came In... KQ Suited Followed By 2 Kings And 1 Queen Floped, BINGO! I Cheked, Called The 0.08c Rise On The Turn Aad Raised His 0.16c To 0.32c On The River, He Called With A Lousey Pair, KK With A High Card Ace Kicker... After This I Had About 2 Bad Hands That I Cheked On One And Folded On The Next Followed By 2 More Wins... To Cut A Long Story Short I Went On To Win The Next 2 Games, Turning My $1 In To $9... Ok It Took Me Over An Hour And A Half And Is Still No Big Potatos, However I Still Went Away Thinking, WOW... That Was The Best Bit Of Advice Ever, Now... I Realise This Is Not Some Magical Secret, Its Not Some Sort Of Devine Strategy, I Was Just Playing People That Where Willing To Go ''ALL IN'' On Ridiculous Hand, ''Like The Ones I Previousley Played'' And I Got Thinking... Iv'e Been Playing Poker For 2 Weeks Tops, And Even That Is A Exageration, Some People Have Played For Decades... And I Imagine That The Level Of Information And Advice They Have Had Means They Probably Have Forgoten More That I Already Know, So I Asked My Self... What Is Probably The Best ''TIP'' Or Piece Of Advice You Can Get Given? So I Thought Id Come Here And Ask You Guys... What Is The Best Piece Of Adive Anyone Has Ever Given You ?? Thankyou... I Am Also Running A Side Poll, Chek It Out... See What You Think, All The Best From EvIlK3Rn3L... Good Luck, And Happy Hunting!

Be careful here - this is a bit dangerous. The Stove ranks the hands by comparing each to three specific "test hands." These comparisons use an "all-in preflop" evaluation to see which holds up better.
Here is an example that might illustrate the danger areas with the Stove. Broadway hands like KTo. These hold up reasonably well all-in preflop and are ranked ahead of suited connectors like 87s. But they are two very different hand types in ring games. With87s, you tend to win big pots or lose small ones. With KTo, it's the other way around.
IMO, the best way to think about "playing 20% of your hands" is this: Play 10% of your hands UTG. Play 25-30% from the button. Other positions fall in there in the obvious way, with maybe 15% of MP hands played. If that averages out to about 20%, you're probably gonna do well at microstakes. Playing the same 20% (even aggressively!) from all positions is a good way to be very average at NL10 and lower stakes.

Thanks... I Have Revised The Hands That I Play, Its Only A Kind Of Chart Rule For Me To Use As A Guide, I Have Aded A Few Suited Conectors And Removed Some Others That I Found To Be Disapointing... I Will However Chek Any Hand I Have A Blind In, But If By The Turn I Havent Got Anything Better Than A Pair I Will Not Invest Any More In The Pot... A Lot To Learn Still, So Ill Take In To Acount Your Advice And See How It Changes My Game Play And Earnings. Good Luck And Happy Hunting
