So today I'm really happy to be playing poker. I'm not checking Poker Tracker, I'm not worrying about beats, and I'm not mindlessly surfing the web. I'm just here, chilling, playing poker and enjoying it.

What kind of mental preparation do you guys have for poker?

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

i mentally prepare by making an expectation on hands to complete, not profit to make, somthing i used to do.

Also, the games im playing are less stressful than those i used to play, which helps me not tilt.

I don't really do anything to prepare for a session.

I tend to come here before I get going and catch up with whatever threads i feel like i need to read so that I don't have the urge to surf here much while playing.

A couple other things lately have helped me stay strong through my long sessions.

1) I'm finding that keeping the irc window open and bs'ing with everyone in there keeps me laughing and having fun (and therefore more alert) and I haven't yet found myself in any bad ruts where I was playing on autopilot and not thinking anything through. We'll see if that continues in the long run.

2) I play cash games almost always. I find tourneys of any kind to be fun, but I suck at them. The last few long sessions I've played I played a SnG or two as a sort of break. Then take care of the basic bodily needs and when I get back to the cash games I feel like I'm almost starting a new session...feeling fresh!

But in the end, more than anything...playing good poker motivates me to play more good poker. Knowing that I'm making the right reads and decisions pumps me up and keeps me going. Poker is just simply not fun when I'm playing poorly. And to be clear, I'm talking about my play and not my results, although the results obv tend to follow the play.

Better preparation would help your win-rate and probably make you tilt much less and micro-tilt less still.

I have no idea. Honestly, it probably won't happen until I'm a level 82 balla in training.
