    Default Beginners Winners Circle

This was Chardrains idea but I'm going to take the credit for it.

I think It'd be a good idea if everyone here posted their accomplishments in this thread so we can keep track of who's doing well in what.

    Doesn't matter what it is,

    Won your first SnG?
    Just got bankrolled for 25NL?
Came in the money for the first time in a MTT?

Just post what ever you did that made you slightly proud today. Tell us about it.
  2. #2
I'll start us off since I'm here.

Yesterday I made just over $2000 in one day playing cash games. Thats the most I ever made in one day apart from a MTT win.

Recently moved up to 25NL, and am making 10ptbb/100 through 6k hands. Small potatoes I know, but $300 is alot to me!

This thread has made me pause though - the last time I actually *achieved* something in poker was months ago when I FTed a $10K freeroll, or maybe when I moneyed in my first (and only to date) $33 SNG. But it's okay to just keep on keeping on, right, working the BR up ever so slowly, enjoying and learning the game?

Today was a big day for me. I tried 8 tabling full ring for the first time. I played 5000 hands, the most hands I have ever played for a single day. And I won. I ran awfully (KKvsAA 3 times, 3 set under sets, 1 2outer (AAvsQQ unimproved all in on turn)) and I still managed to scrape out 4ptbb/100.

I think I played really good poker today.

    Nice going.

I also thought of a new target, related to my moan above about not achieving anything. I have memberships of 9 (nine) poker sites, and I am in the black on 5 of them. That means I am in the red on 4 others, and so my target is going to be to get back into profit on each of these sites.

    They are:

Stars - down $25 - shouldn't be a problem, I have only played about 6 tourneys there and a couple of decent ring sessions should sort me out.

Prima - down $200. This is a nuisance. I get 35% rakeback there, but they only offer $20NL (can't take it seriously) and $50/100NL (not sure I can handle them right now) so I'm not sure what I should play to get my money back.

Pacific - down $130. Not even sure how this happened, considering how fishy it is. In fact, that's probably why - I just didn't take it seriously. Also I dallied with their super-speed tourneys which ultimately cost me money - I'm a tight, cautious tourney player and they just didn't suit me.

Poker Syndicate - down $55. Just joined this Boss network site as it offers 50% rakeback in the form of shares in the site, and it's run by a mate. Not too concerned about this - it doesn't support PT and the $25NL tables are fishy, so a bit of concentration and discipline and I should get back into the black.

So, $410 needed - perhaps by the end of May? I have to fit 4000 hands in at Crypto too to get my monthly $100 bonus and freeroll entry, but it might be possible. Any thoughts?

I think whether you are up at one site or down another is irrelevant. Money's money right?

Its kinda like me wishing that I had made money on all 8 of my tables tonight. At the end of the session, I clicked my stats on each table, and one 3 of the 8, I was down over 100 dollars. However, on 3 other tables I had 4 buyins of chips sitting in front of me.

What is important is that I made money overall.

Absolutely. I think the idea is to give myself a target, even though I know targets can sometimes prove a hindrance. I also would like to be able to take advantage of the 35% rakeback site. But yeah, it's an arbitrary decision, pretty much.

i have recently accepted the fact that I am not as good as I think I am and set up a series of reasonable goals for myself to pull myself out of my crapola stakes.

SnG Observations to keep in mind:

    1. For first 3-5 segments of SnG (till 100 or 200 blinds), play the mighty 19, and oddball lower suited connectors (in good position for a limp). Be very cautious, folding easily if not committed to >4 blinds.

    2. DO NOT GO ALL IN Pre Flop without the big 4 (AA KK QQ) early on. And even then only do it vs. proven dingbats for AKs cause dangit it just aint a made hand.

    3. Become much more aggressive with large stack after blinds >100. This was never obvious to me before and i often held on to my chips to the point of having a pansie table image that no one would call.

    4. If there is an A on flop, with >3 players, assume someone has an A.

    5. The Small Blind position sucks and i only play it vs 1 opponent, the BB, then i raise. It's lost money most other times. Or in general, I have in past month been much more intelligently aware of position.

    7. 22 thru JJ ain't much without a flopped set.

    8. Just freaking fold more pre flop. JUST DO IT.

    9. For the right price, mix it up a bit and if something ends up stupid (for the right price) let your opponent see it so they also know you are stupid.

    10. Fold More.

    11. Have a complete count of my outs and if playing >3 people after flop, put opponent on a range of hands. EVERY TIME.

    11. Fold More.

    I have found my "zone"

    Ring: N/L 6 max $5 or $10 buy in

SnG: 1-2 table turbos, preferring the $6 version. I also LOVE the 6 max turbos but these are $12 and are only an option after a few great wins on $6's above. The $3 10 man 1 tablers are where i fall back to when i crap on my bankroll.

I need to stick to the plan.

    I play only at PStars.
Been playing money poker for 34 years and decided in 2002 to try that TX Holdem game on TV. Then found Pokerstars in Summer 2005. Still not an overall winner but i am on a good trend and nearly there.

today i completed a short term goal of playing 100sngs on ap at $6 buy in and having a positive roi after it.
Now i can say i can beat sngs.
Now i will also never play those crapshoots ever again.

(I'll probably just cash it out to increase my BR, but it's still a nice feeling)

After finishing 14th, 12th, 10th...I finally made the final table of the POKERSTARS $22 / 180 to finish 8th...

Next step is a big 1000 person tournament if I can just find the time.

in my last 1k hands at 25NL, including a $50 win in a $5 SnG, my BR shot up over 13 buy ins! this was after a 3k hand just under break-even spell. definitely a motivator to keep learning - thx FTR.

I've recently moved up to $25NL and played 8000 hands at 5BB/100. I feel like I'm gradually improving, but I hope to work out more about finding leaks with PokerTracker.

Made my first decent withdrawal yesterday.

    No hindsight for the blind.
Cleared my very first little bonus today. Okay, so the entire bonus is not cleared, but I got the first 30$ of pokerDOTcasinoDOTnet's 100$ bonus.

Also I've started a transition from SnG's to full ring, just to try it out. I guess I'll stay at ring until summer, and then make the decision on what I prefer the most. Right now I am enjoying ring very much, 3-tabling 10NL.

I'm a beginner at 200NL, so 4.5ptBB/100 after 10k hands is good. My first $1000 day ever today (cash games) and cleared a 600$ bonus yesterday. I feel good.

I'm up $500 since tuesday, playing $25NL And I'm terrible.

Was playing Serious Sam2 on new video and monitor so I was sustaining a hard on (yes I am a gaming geek but i haven't bought new hardware for 2-3 years) for like 2 hours. At 11:30 i stopped playing cause my heart was racing so hard and my underarms were soaked.

Last nite i was down to my last $17. After SS2 i needed a relaxing breather over a few glasses of wine cause wife been asleep for 2 hours and i wasn't going to get laid to get to sleep.

I log on to 2 $6 turbo 2 man tables (I know. poor BR management. but with new gaming hardware i was ready to take a break toill poker. My budgetted $50 for may is coming up so i wasn't too bad about killing my current roll.) and started off slow n steady.

Won both. 1st place in each. Bankroll over $80. My typical schedule for 18 man tables is lose 2 then place ITM for 1 for a minor net increase or a minor loss if in 4th.

I have one early hand that I played badly that i sent a HH on so it can be reviewed and I can determine where i made my mistake.

I'm a perennial Low-Medium stakes player. But recently my BR got affected by life. Something I won't bitch abuot because it's a bankroll built upon a $10 I got for free at Royal Vegas and I've made around $2000 k now. But anyways. Back to the point.

I took all my money out of PS when the bankroll got hurt to go bonus whoring. A little while later I threw $180 on there to rail my brother at the final table of a DS for the WSOP ME.
In two weeks that 180 has turn to $675.

And I had this bad boy.

Plus I had a run where I finished ITM in 8 of 9 SnGs. So the past 14 days haven't been huge as far as $$$ goes but considering my BR got knocked down to 400 from 1500 a while ago, this jump has been monumental in it's own way.

Wahay finally got one , as a ring player learning tourny i'm sort of a beginner so decided to practice a bit on the freerolls. Was 1st when the 28th man fell then just started pushing as 4.30 am in UK at time.....

PokerStars Tournament #23517308, No Limit Hold'emFreeroll Super Satellite8486 playersTarget Tournament #23112702 27 tickets to the target tournament Tournament started - 2006/04/28 - 18:22:00 (ET) Dear Grace Note, You finished the tournament in 22nd place. Edit: 8486 entrants but a few thousand of those went in half an hour so dont really count.

what tournament did that get you into?
  44. #44
Tourny no. #23112702 . It is basically a $1000 guaranteed tourny paying out on 20% award structure that you can only get into via daily freerolls. I'ts scheduled for Sunday, but I cant play then because in UK Monday is a bank holiday so I'm out drinking on Sun! But I think if I unregister I am given some sort of ticket and can play in another one. Also means the standard should be OK as everyone involved got into the top 27 of quite a large field, there are 1978 registered for it now so I guess a field of about 2K is to be expected.......

This is weak and sad compared to most of you, but it's a milestone fo sorts for me. Last night I doubled my initial $250 deposit to $519 through a combination of bonus whoring and playing just slightly better than break-even poker Only took me 3 months... baby steps, right?

Nonsense. Its more difficult to grind 100$ at 10nl than it is to grind 2k at 200nl. 500 is a HUGE milestone. Now you can whore party and get that up to 1000 in like a week or two. GL

I've turned my initial $60 into $450 over a month and 3 weeks. The first three weeks were a very bumpy road as I had to learn the game (oh a flush is HIGHER than a straight?!) AND cope with the horrible mental fits that come with poker at the same time. (those have cost me SO MUCH in the past it's uncanny)

Cutting down on 'playing when I suck' is crucial and I'm finally more able to pick up the signs within myself when I can play a normal game and when I can't. Like now, I really wanna play, but I *know* I'm gonna suck so I have to wait until I feel I'm up for it.

I need to start bonus whoring *badly* though.. but damn I can't seem to be able to get my money into neteller . Maybe I'm better off just getting a credit card?

Oh and I can't wait for the fast lane That would be so cool and welcome, although I'm not getting my hopes up (honestly) for it to happen any time soon. I suck too much still.

Is this one of those overlays that gives you statistics on players?

    Yes.

Why can't you withdraw to Neteller?

Well, they gave me a bank account number and a SWIFT number from a London bank. The swift number means that the bank is part of a new european ruling that dictates that you can make international money transfers with national fees. Standard international fees are huge. But I need an IBAN number (the standardized international format of their bank account number) not the normal bank account number, otherwise I have to pay international fees. So I emailed their support to ask for the IBAN number so I could make the deposit through internet banking, but they kept replying that they couldn't help me and that I needed to go to my bank.

So I went to my bank, and they said the same thing: without the IBAN-number, I have to pay international fees. (I wanted to deposit €100 and the fees are atleast €15 and probably more, which is stupid)

Nah that one was a joke. About 90% 0f my other 1100 posts are mature and helpful though. Sorry jack!

To make it up to you, I wen't through the same process when trying to put money in for the first time. Finally I got through to support and they gave me an IBAN so that my bank wire was free. Even though it never arrived in my Neteller. Eventually Neteller support got so sick of me emailing and ringing them they basically just credited me with €20 for free.

    Perseverance is the key!

Something went wrong with my Neteller this weekend and now they need me to call them. What a waste of time.

Hm seems neteller gives a lot of problems? Maybe I should get a credit card, it costs €20 a year. Or I could just email/call neteller again ofcourse.

But I'm not too motivated anymore to pursue it atm, since I've hit a downswing. Lost $70 since my last update here. The cards have not been kind to me, but it's more bad play than bad cards. Exams are coming up too, the most stressful period of the year for me. I'm also a lot more pressed for time to play than before.

WP dude. I am going to play one or two of these tonight and DAMN I need to FT a decent tourney - my poker life feels fraudulent without an MTT pedigree.

(it was like 7 months ago but my 5th in a 455-man $5.50 MTT on Pokerroom is the nearest I can get to having anything worth posting on this thread)

    Great Job Hartlin!

A few of my highlights :

    Final table of 22 180 4th place : $288
    Final table of 4.40 1st place: $216
a few other from small mtts
took 1st in a few live tournaments last year for over 3200 total.

Good job Hartlin, congrats! I really want to take up MTTs too, but now isn't the time for me. I've gotten 6max ring down for the most part, but my MTT skills are too shaky still.

You're focussing mostly on tourneys btw?

    Its been a good week

    Dear ARK4748,

You finished the tournament in 5th place.
A $227.37 award has been credited to your Real Money account.

The only thing that hurt was the hand that essentially knocked me out. My AQ vs KK, Ace on the flop, K on the turn. What you gonna do, still had a great time, but damn these things are long!
