Ok I am a relative beginner to poker, especially poker forums like this one was just wondering about a few terms...

What's a set? I'm guessing four-of-a-kind...

100/BB, how do you work this out and what does it tell you? I've just seen it mentioned a few times across this forum

What's a Poker Tracke?

If anyone has time to explain these bits and bobs it'd be much appreciated,

1. A set is another term used for three-of-a-kind, specifically used when you have a pocket pair (eg. your hole cards are 55), and make your three-of-a-kind on the community cards (eg. the community cards are AJ753 with your hole cards being 55).

2. BB/100 is a term used in limit holdem mainly to show how many big bets you are making every 100 hands, PokerTracker will work this out for you. A big bet is a term used in a limit game, for example in a 2/4 limit game, the blinds will be $1 and $2, with the big bet being $4.

3. PokerTracker is a software that racks your poker stats for you and gives you various information, it is very helpful to plugging leaks in your game, and at $55 it is a bargain (if you want to buy, please click the link in this post to it).

Hope this helps.

Set = 3 of a kind

Poker Tracker is a program that tracks your and your oppenents play at the able. Good to see what your stats are and how good the ones at your table are.
BB/100 is easiest to get from Poker Tracker, 1 BB/100 means that you are winning 1 Bb per 100 played hands.

Good luck!

Cheers guys,

I use www.checkyourbets.com to keep track of my poker activity but as its free I doubt its as sophisticated as PokerTracker.

Thanks for clearing all that up for me!

Do you both have PokerTracker? A good investment?

Yes it's worth every cent. Keeps track of every hand you played, you can got back and replay the hand. Find out where you leaks.
Together with Gametime+ pr Playview you get really good stats on the players you are playing against, which can save you the cost of PT really fast.

Yep, the $55 you spend on it will pay for itself very quickly. PokerTracker combined with GameTime+ (a PT addon) is a dangerous combination that will make you some serious $$$.

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
Set usually refer to 3 of a kind with one on the board and two in the hand
Trips refer to 3 of a kind with two in the board and one in the hand

The FTR home page has a link to a holdem lingo that contains the commonly used terms

I would advice you to go for Pokeroffice instead of pokertracker, its far superior during play and has a really slick overlay that prints all the stats and odds directly on the table - in real time!!
Also, that program you can get for free if you sign up through them on the empire site.

Careful what sites Poker Office supports, I was sold on it 'til I saw how anemic the list is.
Up my bankroll - buy Saints Row.

They do support the big sites - PartyPoker, EmpirePoker, MultiPoker, Intertops, PokerNow, Eurobet/Coral, PokerStars, Prima Network (beta) and Labrokes (beta)
And I suppose they will constantly add more and more sites to this list.
