I just put the full story on my blog, but because PokerStars will not let you change your display name, I wanted to create a new account, transfer my money over, and continue on under my new name. Originally (here also) I was "Jackwrangler" because I could get the domain name, and the handle was free most places.
Unfortunately, I didn't google it in order to discover that "Jack Wrangler" was a gay porn star.
So upon setting up the new account, something flagged at Poker Stars and they locked me down. I didn't realize you couldn't create a new account. I asked for an exemption--I don't want multiple accounts, I just want to change my display name. It's been 24 hours, and there has been no reply.
I guess I understand why they don't want you changing your name, and I certainly understand why they don't allow multiple accounts. But I still hope they'll give me an exemption. Otherwise, I guess I'm off to Full Tilt, which I already don't like the interface for.

It's in their rules and FAQ. You can't change your account name, or create multiple accounts. I would doubt that they'll grant you an exception, but I'd be interested to hear what they say.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Well ban me here too then.
I think it's pretty lame that a person can't change their name. Start over. Etc.
I realize I made a mistake not googling my identity, but I aint going through my poker life with the name of a dead gay porn star.
I'm sorry.

I suspect that PokerStars will eventually allow you to continue playing under your original name.
But I don't think you understand why they ban multiple names. Part of what makes online poker play fun and interesting is the note taking function, which allows you do use the computer to record information about the people you play against, and maybe you don't face the guy again for 3 months, and when you do, that note is there and you have a record of your reads. Whereas you'd never remember just a username. This is necessary to establish some rough parity with live play, where you might very well remember the face of a loose-aggressive maniac even months later when he comes to play again.
Well, allowing you to change your name defeats that note-taking function. Indeed, angle-shooters would change names as soon as their results started going downhill so that players would no longer have operable reads and notes against them.
So even though you probably didn't know any better, changing your username is a form of cheating in online poker.

No, I totally get it. I hadn't thought it through until I saw their rules. My first thought was WTF? And my second was, Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Of course, there are other ways to solve the problem. Publish a variable display name and a constant user id, for example. Then people can base their persistent keys off the constant user id, and someone who is tired of being DebbieDoesDallas43 can change her display name after she realizes it was a poor choice...
But anyway, yeah, I understand the logic.

... given the limitations of a poorly designed system, yes.
I'm still hoping they'll make an exception. I don't think 4 days of penny poker is worth being a rules-stickler over.

i know it's too late for this, but you also could just laughed it off and been a good sport when you found out that it was a dead gay porn star. make your avatar like some dude in assless chaps or something.
who the f cares if there was a gay porn star with your poker sn? does that slowly but surely turn you into a wiener craver or something?
jack wrangler with gay avatar would be much funnier and much more props-warranting than theblueknave imho

Well, remember, it isn't only note-taking. People are entitled to remember you by screen name too.
Again, if you change your legal name, it doesn't stop someone from recognizing you when you come into the poker room. But online, the screen name is all that a player has to work with.
So no poker room I know of allows name changes, and none should.

HOLY JESUS CHRIST! That is a gay name, much gayer than flomo.
although the blue knave is even gayer than both of those put together. you should change your name again.
good luck!
multiple accounts are the problem , changing names is just a pain for the sites

I honestly dont understand whats been so bad about your sn in the first place. People either dont know, dont care or find it funny. Are you seriously worried about people on the internet mistaking you for a gay person?

Stupidest excuse for a name change if you as me. The Gay porn name is something I wish i had thought of in the past for my Stars name. So easy to take advantage of macho gamblers prone to tilt. As it turns out, your the macho gambler prone to homophobic tilt.
Bit of advice. Don't do, or buy anything related to poker sites again without asking FTR first. You may cost yourself a ton of money.

Ah, you know, I want to do this thing with a blog that tracks my progress from penny player to wherever I end up, the learning, the new experiences, the trials, the tribulations, the victories...
But if some googles "Jack Wrangler" they're not going to find me, they're going to find the "original."
I don't care if they think I'm gay, and people already think my "Blue Knave" thing is pretty stupid, but that's ok. It doesn't have to compete with SEO for someone who already has a fully established identity.

Maybe I've got a unusual take on this but .......WTF...
Get your head out from your ass and smell the roses not whatever you're smelling and spouting . You should be playing poker to enjoy it , get better at it , to try and remove emotion from it not as a prop for your own ego and vanity. Why on earth would anybody want to google your name /id . IF you did become "famous" its highly likely that you would displace the gay guy at the top of the search engine lists anyway or that people would put your name and poker in the search terms .

Well, the PokerStars security team came through for me.
Any more chicanery and they'll ban me permanently, but they let me change it.
I knew reason would prevail.
And I think I have a better chance of upseating the livejournal user... or even the other poker player with the similar name *if* I persist, learn, & succeed, which is what this is all about anyway.
And if I don't then who cares?

5. nish
Ethnic term for the vagina. Prominent in Jewish households.
Unable to hold her bladder, the young girl let pee escape from her nish into her clean shorts. Mother beat her accordingly.

You didn't want a gay name and then don't even google the new name you pick.. and once again, you have another gay name. Except this time, people might think that the site is actually you irl.
