Hi guys,
I'm trying to get an idea for what games will be the most profitable in terms of making an income.
My first angle, and what i'm currently grinding out (as some of you already know ) is to play SNGs.
My target (eventually) will be to make $100 a day as a basic income (played 5 days a week).
But someone recently said they play 50nl and can see that increasing as they get better to make a substantial living. Obviously it's horses for courses and each to their own etc. but i wondered if someone who was currently making £2k or more per month could suggest what is a profitable aim in terms of games, stakes and the progrssion of skill/stakes.
Thanks!

Cash games are more profitable. Theres not a lot of people (relatively) who make a living at sng's.

You could live on 100nl easily with rakeback.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

good god, i was just reading those pokerstars bonuses.
that's insane.
I'm a little fuzzy though, could someone just write out a generic example of someone playing regularly at pokerstars and making some reasonable use of those VIP points? y'know, so many games per day at so many stakes.
That would be great, cheers.

A 3BB/100 winrate is respectable at 100nl. That means you are making $6/100 hands. If you were to 10 table that would be around 600hands/hr or $36/hr, without any rakeback. If you are looking to win approximately $2000 per month you would need to put in around 33.3k hands or ~56hours if my math is correct (which it usually isn't).
Using spoon's website I see that 33k hands at 100nl is about 12k vpps. Which if you are platinum star (2.5x) is 30k fpps. If you were for instance to play the 210fpp SNGs at the end of every month with the 30k fpps you earned throughout the month and had a 30% winrate you would expect to make around $460+ in "Rakeback". Or you could save those 30k fpps for around 4 months and cash in on a $1500 bonus (100k fpps).

If I can just get my monthly expenses down to less than $249, I can quit my job and go pro....

1/2 LHE works out about the same, too. but, the real key, as spoon said, is RAKEBACK.
you need to know exactly what you need to make. and, have a much larger bankroll than the "minimum requirements" in case of a bad month. many players strive for breakeven months and live almost exclusively on rakeback payments alone.
|
|
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.
Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!

You'll be living like a king compared to my measly $8.50 a month average profit so far...

what? break even and LIVE off of rakeback??
I take it that's pokerstars coz they offer some insane FPP/VIP options.
So is it based off how much you spend rather than how much you win?
I've been looking at SNGs as an income but like you have to come first about 6 times out of 10 to make any money. I worked out that if you looked at it conservatively and had a win rate like this:
2 x 2nd place, 4 x 3rd place and 4 x not in the money (out of ten games)
you'd be up ONE buy in. So if you were playing $3 SNGs you'd earn $3 for every ten games.
Not so good.
Anyone have any figures of SNG wins? when someone says they can beat, say, $10 SNGs what would their win rate be per ten games?
