I think I am going to switch from NL tournaments to Limit ring games. My progress through the single table SNG's is painful and although I would rate myself as a break-even player, I'm not making enough progress.

I can't handle the thought of huge swings playing NL ring (I would just go all-in and lose all the time), so am trying my hand at Low-Limit ring games now. Maybe the odd NL MTT thrown in...

Thoughts? Am I mad?

I don't really mean "all the time", I just mean that when/if i did go all-in at NL, it could completely bust me out - whereas with limit, I can't do that. I guess on the other side of the coin it means I can't win as much at limit as NL. But am I right in assuming the swings/variance would be less at limit than NL due to this?

i am not qualified to say.. but i would assume so.. the pot simply can not get as big at the same level.. NL downswings do suck.. but i dont see why people rarely acknowledge NL upswings.. which make you a shitload of cash. You need to have good control over your emotion in either game i guess

This really surprises me! Can anyone explain why? I'm not saying I don't agree, I just can't work out why it would be the case.

because you can't protect your hand in limit like you can in nl by betting more than a fixed amount, so your tptk or whatever will get outdrawn more because people will have odds to chase more often

Limit swings can also be bigger because to play limit well you have to push small edges and call on a lot of draws. It's fairly common to get a lot of drawing hands in a short period of time that you are forced to play and call bets with because of the pot odds and have none of the draws come in. On the other hand though, you will occassionally have most of your draws come in and pull down many very large pots.
