I am considerring purchasing a wireless aircard through Verizon for my laptop to play poker during my extended travelloing I do fo work. Has anyone tried this type of connection? Unfortunately Verizon only offers their"Broadband" speeds in certain areas and I will not be in them so my speeds will be what their national coverage offers. I was told my connection speed would be in the 56k+ range. Is this adequate? I have no expeience with anything but cable internet speeds so I am uncertain if I should try it as it isn't cheap. Any helpful suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike,

I've played online poker on a dial-up internet connection, and it worked suprisingly smoothly. There are some minor delays but it is very playable in my experience (this was from a few years ago though).

I continue to play online on dial-up.

I know nothing about computers - but I am usually connected at either 46.6 or 48 something madoobers.

So the 56k seems like it would work fine to me.

The speed isnt the problem...

The problem is latency...

I tried another wireless companys offering and it SUCKED bigtime.

Dialup was far better because dialup didnt have the 2-4 second delay before clicks would register.

That said, it wasnt Verizon, and things might have changed (no one was advertiseing that service at the time.)

PS: Fast basic explination of speed vs latency.... think of a pipe... speed = how wide the pipe is (aka how much water is in the pipe) latency = how long the pipe is (aka, how long the water takes to arrive)
