Folks talk about some hard and fast rules sometimes on this board about when they would play and when they wouldn't, how much they would bet, etc. I know many of the books do the same thing. Anyone know of a case where the rules were programmed in and set loose on a real (or even play) money game?

Just curious, I'd be a bit disappointed if it worked well.

Do you mean like take the AI from a computer tournament poker game and use those rules to play for money? I've never heard of it being done but im sure it could work at lower stakes. Just with less efficiency than a person.

u mean a bot? pretty sure that's not allowed...

and yes most likely it would turn a profit using set rules.... hence why it is not allowed....

Loki from U of Alberta was allegedly demoed a couple of times online at very low stakes and did ok, think it was getting crushed once it moved up to real stakes though. Its supposed to check raise, semi bluff and use pot odds, amongst other things.

Great link, thanks, just what I was looking for.

As to online sites allowing their use, I'm not sure how they would know if one were being used, really. Set it up to use variable times to respond, etc. They would have to snoop on your system, although since most (all?) are offshore, they might get away with that.

you would have to have random time delay decisions to make it look like a human making a decision on a play.. then it probably couldnt play more then 4 to 6 hours of poker a day. especially without normal breaking for food/eat/water/bathroom.
