How about KQ/66? He limp/called your raise.
You are 99.9% beat here, auto fold.

OK fair point - but he didn't have that - he had Q6!

i assumed that if he hit a set, against just one opponent, he might check it to hope I caught up! I like to check raise with TPTK especially with a couple of pictures as I figure my opponent to have one of them when he bets.
obviously I've got a lot more to learn.

i think your problem is you are trying to play against yourself. you think hands out as if you were playing yourself. not everybody plays the way you do... not everybody checks a set. And he may have bet that because you raised pf and then some face cards hit so he might have figured you AK or something like that.

Yeah, I suspect you're right, bearcats05, i suppose I do put myself in my opponent's shoes. I have seen a lot of crazy moves which I would never have played in a million years I have to confess.
Althougb I will fold big hands if I think I am behind (such as if facing two reraises or if someone bets a flop which contains an overcard to my pair) whch is why I suggest I'm tight, going back over my hand histories I seem to be aggressive as well. I make large adjustments based on position and regularly raise with marginal hands on the button or one from it.
If I miss the flop or am first to act and I am the raiser, I will have a stab at the pot most of the time (but not all the time to try and mix up my play) if there is only one or two opponents.
This leads me to an observation about position. I fully understand the ideas behind late position play and follow the advice of greats like Brunson and Cloutier. But, if you are in early position and have just one opponent, you get the first chance to put the bluff in, do you not? Of course your later position opponent might come over the top of your bet with a hand or even a rebluff. But if he has missed the flop, as you may have, he'll surely fold to a decent bet?

Q6 is a bad hand preflop. On a KQ6 flop its a good hand. If he had Q7 or QT he wouldnt push, he did so because he had Q6, two pair, against your kinda obvious AK.

Would he risk 160 to win 50 with nothing? If yes, he's your new friend and you shouldn't leave his side until you've taken all his money

I find that when someone check raises my pot sized bet to a near doubling pot amount - I'm beat with my top pair. Check raise the flop indicates a much better hand than two kings.
