I was playing late last night and had been doing pretty well for me. I was up about $20 in the first hour but then had pocket A's broken by a two pair flop. Why the guy called me pre-flop raise with K6, I'm not sure, but he was there and the flop made his two pair. I was out of position on him so I check the flop, he checked behind me. And then called my bets to the river. That's not the hand that's bugging me right now. But that pretty well ate up my gains for the session to that point.
Shortly after that I was dealt pocket jacks. The first to act raised $4. Normally, I'd fold JJ to that raise, but this guy had no other pre-flop raise. He either fold, checked, or raised $4. Earlier in the session he raised $4 pre-flop with pocket 8's that happen to hold-up to the river (Not against me). So, I put him on a good hand not necessarily a great one, but probably pocket pairs of some kind.
Here is how the hand played out:

beavens balance $52.60, didn't bet (folded)

yetifer balance $25, sits out

aneratergos balance $13.35, lost $6 (folded)
What gets me is the check on the flop and then the size of the raise on the turn. I checked to him on the flop when the A showed up. My bet on the turn is weak, but I wanted to see how he'd respond. The re-raise just seemed wrong to me -- too large for him to want me to call it, but large enough that if I do and he's on KK or QQ then he's screwed.
Well it wasn't worth the $8 for me to find out especially after the $15 loss on the pocket A's earlier. So I laid it down.
What do you think?

To be honest it almost sounds like the guy since you were weak or scared to play the hand you had. Something alone those lines, I do believe either he was trying to take it down right there with a mediocre type hand or had trips, one or the other. If I since weakness in someone I play it hard and give them as many opportunities to fold as possible. He very well could have been slow playing trips in that situation trying to trap you, I have made that play before and it works when you make it look as if your trying to buy the pot, but I don’t suggest slow playing 100% of the time it can and will backfire. I guess my suggestion after I said all that is you can’t play scared, if you start playing scared you’re going to get ran over, every time, JJ is a hard hand to play though so it’s hard online to know what to do with that hand it’s one of those hands you need a tell with.

If you're going to bet there, make it at least $6. Consider re-raisng pre-flop if he'll open like that with 8s.

Nice read, fanatic. That also sceams either a bluff or a set to me.
And as they both said, the turn bet was too low to rule out a bluff. If you bet $6, and he raised you to $16 or something, you'd have to fold for sure, and I'd put him on a flopped set. If he had anything but a monster or a hand he wanted to fold, he'd have bet on the flop.
