I have to say I totally agree with what is written on this site´s first page.
I started with a deposit of $20 bucks at Pacific, got $10 bonus and won a little until my bankroll was about $35. Slowly, but steady, I thought. Then it all went down. Slowly, but steady, I lost virtually all the money in my roll.
I was thinking about giving up, but then I joined Royal Vegas and got $18 in bonus for my first $20 deposit. My bankroll went down about $10, then up almost to $38 again, then down to less then $25. Now I was desperate, and I tested a NL table and got lucky!(?) Winning five dollars on a hand was much more fun than struggling at the limit tables and only get a couple of pennies out of your best hands. I first thought I was on a lucky streak, but now I doubt it. After playing some days with a few downs but more ups, I now have almost $60 in my bankroll - and I have not risked more than $5 at a single table.
I think that is the key, to buy in low. I usually sit down with just 2-3 bucks and if I have a bad hour, I lose those dollars. But occasionnaly, I have transformed those few bucks to more than $20, and more often than I lose all, I at least double up.
I think the thing is that NL is cheaper. It´s hard to build a bankroll from scratch at the limit penny tables. Even if you could make an average of 10BB´s/hr, it would only be $1/hr at the $.05-.10 tables that I was playing at.
No Limit Holdem is amazing! If you are a beginner and haven´t tried it yet, don´t hesitate! Probably, you can spare 6-9 dollars. Put a third of those at a time at a NL table. If you double up or more, change table and put in a new 2-3 dollars. You´ve got very little to lose and very much to win!
