When i get AA or KK i usually bet large prior to the flop, and most of the time at the $5 SnG or $25NL ( only 2 games i play at the moment) table every one folds or if 1 person calls and i get a good flop, or none at all I go all in. My thinking is that i rather take a small pot then get burned on the river. Of course i did this yesterday with KK and got called with AK flop was A k 9, went all in on turn he called turn was an A river was K. Of course i lost. but is this a good philosphy or should i slow play it a little more?

His full house beat your 4 of a kind?

Reguardles of what you were trying to say with your example, you should ALMOST ALWAYS raise 3-5xbb preflop with AA or KK. The only good reason to not do so is to change up your table image a little bit.

The things to keep in mind are that:

-AA is nice, but it is still just a pair - how many showdowns do you see where someone has better than just a pair?

-AA loses its value when you have more than one other person in the hand with you. You will still be ahead preflop but you are not dominating as much as you are in a heads up situation.

- Typically with AA you will either win a small amount of money or lose a large amount of money. Its a hard hand to fold when you should.

kkkk+(a)k= kkkkk

how large is large? if large is 5x BB, you're golden. if large is 10x BB, you're probably losing money you could've had otherwise. bottom line is you want callers with AA, just you want to limit it. even with 3 callers, you are going to come out ahead. even with 9 callers you will come out ahead. aces are goot like that. 3-5x preflop, good. on the flop, bet the pot if you're worried. problem with a push, is you're only getting called when you're beat. you have to win that small pot a lot of times to make up for getting destacked once.
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch

3-5x bb raise is right, maybe more if the blinds are small. The point of the raise is to get the true crap out of the pot, so someone doesn't flop 79 and get 2 pair. Limping or doing something else is appropriate at times, but it's a special situation thing. If you raise and get a reraiser then the best thing to do is put them AI with AA. With KK, if you think they have AA, I would fold and live to fight.

Who does this?
In Harrington's book he said he thought about it once, but still never laid it down.

I have never folded KK preflop.

I regretted not folding KK preflop once, when I felt I had an absolute read on a guy having AA (but still figured I should stay in on the chance of AK or QQ). Since then I swore I'd follow such a read and have yet to repeat the opportunity.
