I always play at my local casinos $1/$2 no limit holdem, I go to about 3 different casinos and play. I have been playing for a year pretty steady. I am up and down but have not lost too much money... I think I am near even or a little below.
I always play only the basic good starting hands, and raise with your typical "raising hands" I fold all the crap and sometimes play suited connectors, and low pocket pairs for cheap.
Thing is, a few players... well seems more since I remember the comments, say oh he hasnt played a hand all night, or he is very tight etc. Like should I be playing my Ace/rag hands if i can see a flop for $2 ? or should I see a flop if I can for $2 with 10/6 offsuit ? It seems like I am folding 90% of my hands and only playing or raising the good or premium hands.
Should I bluff sometimes and raise with garbage in late position or the button ? Should I try and see the flop for cheap with any two cards ?
I don't want to be a rock, but it seems like I am playing ok... for example the guy that made that comment to me "oh he hasn't played a hand all night" lost about $600 dollars in 2 hours while I walked out of there plus $80 bucks. I know I didn't win a lot of money but I least I was in the plus.
Any advice would help,
thanks

What's your tolerance for Variance? That's the real question here.
Opening up your game (i.e. Loosening your starting requirements) can lead to more profits, BUT, can also lead to higher degrees of swings. If you have a bankroll (and the emotional control) to handle these swings, then by all means, open up a little bit. The problem with this is that it can lead to FPS (Fancy Pants Syndrome) where you start believing that you can win with any hand that is dealt to you.
Also, are you aggressive with the hands that you do play? Or do you tend to limp or call with them? Opening up, without already being aggressive is a recipe for disaster.

you can open up your game in late positions and limp in some speculative hands(ace sooted, SC, one or two sooted gappers, small pairs and King sooted) behind lots of limpers. Occassionally, you might try some small ball poker in position and show them your cheap bluff early on in your games. In general, you dont have to play junk cards and compete to be a table bully in your local casino. Sometimes, you 've got to gamle with bad players in some big pots when your pot equity is above 40%. By the way, i play like a rock ( live standard) in my local casino and kinda crush these 1-2NL soft games.

Dont worry too much about your table image unless you play against the same group day in and day out. There are too many casino gamblers and a bunch of unknown tourists ready to donk away chips out there.
