I play 100 NL and 10/20 limit at party poker. I am a pretty tight agressive player but will play suited connectors and Axs alot if pot odds are right. So my raising hands are usually the top ten hands AA-77, AK, AQ. In NL I usually raise 5xBB and of course in limit 2xBB. I keep up with my stats with Poker tracker. My dilema is the damn AK. I lose that hand %84 of the time. My problem id of course missing flop when you have a caller behing you. If flop comes up rags I try to push about 1/2 maybe 2/3rds the pot. Problem now if player behind calls. Flop is rags so no drawing hand. Did he hit trips or holding a high pair so question is what to do on the turn if I didnt hit my card. Bet out again or check and fold to his bet? Ive almost giving up on rasing with AK unless Im in very late position. And then if the flop gives sometime of drawing hand like 2 suited cards or connectors; I bet out on the flop even though I didnt hit my flop, he calls, turn didnt help his hand I bet again he calls and the river didnt help his hand, do I bet or check? If i bet Ive been put all in quite a bit due to pot odds. Never have called with just AK. Of course in limit its alot easier to get out of hands againts more then one caller since you haent invested as much.

I have the same problem which i discussed here and got some useful feedback, i'll look over my more recent AK's later and see if i've changed but you might want to check this thread out

If you miss the flop with three suited cards throw them in, even maybe with two. You always need to play AK aggressively. If the flop is unthreatening then make a good raise if you have one or two opponents still in the hand. If they reraise then throw it in, it's a fairly profitable semi bluff that often can take the pot. Be careful against calling stations who will call with a small pocket pair or low pair on the board, who have an advantage on the turn and river.

Do you bet the same when you hit the flop or could they be reading your weaker bets as continuation bets and eating you up...

I don't raise AK unless I'm in one of the last two or three positions. It's just not that great of a hand. Playing it out of position is a big time drain on the bankroll.

this thread reeks of weak tight play.
raise AK, play small pots with it, and represent flops. Just because Q73 comes doesn't mean the other guy has a queen! If you get called for bluffing, it's not the end of the world, hell, most players don't bluff enough so they get piss poor value on their good hands.
If you do get called on the flop, depending on how tight the other player is, I might bet the turn, but I often just give it up there. Smart players sometimes call a flop bet to see how you react on the turn( I do if i think the guy is full of shit), this is part of no-limit poker.

I almost always throw in continuation bet here, poker tracker says 71% win AKo, 75% win AKs.

Try playing AK like you play aces. That means reraising preflop and betting any flop that comes out.
That also means that you cannot push all-in with your aces because you don't want to push with your AK too. Be consistent about this and people will believe that all of your AK's are big pocket pairs.
Just be careful though. If you got a lot of callers or if the board is great for drawing hands then play carefully. Your cont bets will usually fail in these situations.
I will usually shut it down if I get called on the flop. I don't want to hang myself and a REAL bet on the turn will cost too much.
