so someone told me if i planned to be a winning 200NL player i'd have to start playing 6max no later than 50NL...

is this true?! why or why not...

if this is the case i'm going to have to drastically change the entire manner in which i'm playing and being a lot more aggressive and exploit position...

i dunno if i'm ready to do all that yet...

umm if you want to be a winning 6max 200nl player then you should play 6max. if you want to be a winning full ring 200nl player then play full ring.

I did answer it

1) learn to beat 5NLFR
2) learn to beat 10NLFR
3) learn to beat 25NLFR
4) learn to beat 50NLFR
5) Worry about 6max

or

1) play 5NL6max

The point is that you have a loooooong way to go till you have to worry about 200NL of any format.

Your original post is complaining about learning poker instead of being a card robot.

Swiggidy already brung the detail...

As a little add - I started w/ FR then went to 6max... was at $25NL on FR and started back at $5NL when I switched to 6max. I think playing tight from FR helps initially keep a basic winning game at 6max... as long as you can ramp up the ATS and defense against... but you do have to learn to open up (something I'm still working on...) and mentally adjust the ranges. I guess the diff was when I started FR, I lost money. When I switched to 6max, I made money from the drop. So there is sh!t that carries...

Oh... you'll have to let me know how all this flips out $200NL 'cause I'm a long f-in way off from that sh!t....

Not true. I play 2/4 FR NLHE and have not ever played 6m seriously.

Robb is an unknown quantity at this point
You gotta find at least one poker game you can beat consistently. Doesn't really matter what it is. Pick the one that best suits your style. I was a degen "gambooool" kind of poker-loser when I decided to get serious, so nitting up was hard. But I could nit up enough for 6max, and my natural aggression worked well there. So I've focused on 6max. Like Sarbo, I was a winning player from the start at 10nl FR. My adjustments were just backwards-Sarbox.

Fortunately I've won several hundred bucks at 10nl which has fueled my attempts to learn other games (stud, PLO, tourneys, HU) and take shots at 25nl.

But like Swiggidy says, just figure out how to beat one game. Then worry about the next. I'm still trying to figure that part out myself, but it's not very stressful when you KNOW you can win yourself a roll at one game/level.
