Just a little whining I guess. I played 2500 hands today and was really really excited about how I was doing. I was really focused and playing tight. I was literally chanting in my head "No tough spots, no tough spots" over and over. I just didn't want to put myself in a position where I had to make tough decisions and it was working well.
Then I ran into these within 20 minutes of each other. I'm going to go ahead and post the complete hands including results. I'm not really posting these for anything more than to whine a little I guess but feel free to let me know if you would have done something different?

I only had 9 hands on the villian and to be honest after the flop I wasn't really concerned with anything other than getting my money in the middle. I lead out with a small bet to see if I was going to get anybody to come along or not. Once I saw villian was onboard I figured I need to space the bets out so I didn't appear to eager. I was a little concerned he could have the Ac but I figured if he does I'm going to donate to him.

Now this one I guess I just played it bad. I was still really pissed when I saw what the vilian chased down with what I thought were atleast decent raises. In retrospect I should have shoved the turn or atleast been smart enough to fold the river.

So the day ended on a pretty sour note after being so happy with how things had gone!

After that I said fuck it and did the only thing a real man can do. I pulled the big black Harley out of the shop wiped her down and went and killed bugs in the 92 degree weather. So really that made up for it after the ice cold Coors Lite!

H1: small flop lead is bad, and the reasoning is fishy to me.

Suppose villain has Acx. Then he stops puuting money in the pot if he misses river right? So then our time to get value from that hand is on the flop and turn.

Sure, if villain has like a pair he'll fold to a pot bet, but we likely wont be getting a full bet or two anyway.

There are quite a few villains that will stack off with two pairs on monotone flops, as well as with overs + a club, sets, straights and such, and since the pot is multiway and we have initiative i like betting alot more.

kjs is a meh open from mp1, villains call really wide though and fold lots of flops so i think its ok.

H2: i like it.

H3: gross but i think i can find a river fold. i dont really see him doing this with Jx or qq or kk and without a read that hes bluffing a shit ton we're way behind imo.

h1: wouldnt open KJs from there but im a nit. flop i bet more, like $1 maybe, and if he raises i reraise, he's not folding a set there, and could keep playing with two pair/Acx. also bet more on turn to get value from 4flush draws.

h2: i like.

h3: urk, mayybe fold the river, not pretty tho
<JustinSKS> Tha'ts why I fold my 33 to 72o, because 7 high beats, 1 pair, donk.

no tough spots...

Hand 1 - KJs
KJs open is fine, so is folding. Flop your bet size is appalling, you're inducing a raise, why? so you can 3-bet? you're also giving the Ac odds to call. Bet $1.20+.
As played, he's 3-bet you so expect another flush/a straight/a set/an overpair here a lot. I guess calling the raise is ok, but bet the turn properly please, you're still giving Ac close to pot odds to call.
Ok -
pre-flop fine.
Flop $1.20, or 3-bet as played.
Turn as played $4.40

Hand 2 - 55
iso 55 here is marginal. Limping behind is probably better, but meh. Flop, yeah, you're up against a range of straights/combo draws/sets/overpairs. Getting it in is fine. Even your flop raise size isn't too bad.

Hand 3 - AA
pre-flop good. Flop good. Turn good. River not good.

Don't be afraid of getting into tough spots. A spot is tough only when you are uncertain of what to do.
You are uncertain of what to do only when two (or more) options seem equally good.
If two (or more) options seem equally good, then it's not possible to lose much or gain much. Therefore, if you're in a tough spot, it doesn't matter what you do.

You serious? I really hate these whiny "oh noes tough spot" avoidance, I mean wtf is wrong with you people? I didnt even bother to look at the hands, but usually your "tough spots" are situations, where a lot of BBs is at stake for relatively little ev, namely pfai decisions or big river calls. Such spots can be considered "tough", since the optimal course of action isn´t clear at first sight, but I can assure you by going for the neutral ev/risk averse/tight-nitty approach (ie folding) you´re definetly leaving some ev on your way to the ocean. Whenever people catch up on your avoiding tactics your basically dead money to them. Your variance will skyrocket, leaving you alone waiting for your set to flop for ages. You´ll blame others for sucking out during the cold winterdays, while your stunting your own progress. "Tough spots" are your chance to gain an edge over bad players and gives you a chance to beat mediocre or "decent" players (whatever that means).

Not to advocate recklessness, spew or plain dumb stuff. Just a reminder, that avoiding the tricky parts of the game is a sure shot on playing micros for a long time.

um, wrong.
the two options may seem equally good, they probably aren't. And tough spots often include a load of variety in the options = >2 options. Call or fold vs allin excluded of course.

I don't usually open KJ from that early but as played, bet larger on the flop. You have a second nut flush hand so why let him play catch up? If he's got something worthwhile he'll come along, and if not you're not going to win much more anyhow.

The AA hand I fold on the river. This is one of those tough spots you referred to but you have 59bb behind. You're not pot committed and you know what he chased down. He donk-shoved because you've represented a big hand and figures you'd call, giving him his implied odds on the fishy flop/turn calls. You lose 6/10 of a BI on a bad decision where if you had folded, you'd had won 6/10 of a BI, simply by letting it go, and thus not giving this fish his implied odds he was looking for.

As far as tough spots go, sure, we'd all like to avoid them and grind along where everyone folds to our c-bets and comes along with our nut hands. But that's not going to happen. Just play your game and make +EV decisions combined with solid reads and you'll be fine.

hand 1: holy shit get this in on the flop
whether you cbet pot, or half pot, I don't care, just 3b his raise

hand 2: would you like some cheese with that whine
hand 3: I think you can fold
if you had folded you would have played it perfectly
