Overall I feel like I played this hand bad. I wasnt sure what I was doing or where I wanted the hand to go. Villan seemed pretty straightforward to me, I had no real reads on him. I was going for value initially and then when he raises me on the turn so huge im like "okay really? wtf"

Any comments on the hand start to finish are appreciated.

as played insta call

I would have just got it allin on the turn since clearly he wanted to get it in.. and if he has 2 pair or a set.. you dont want to scare him away if the river is bad for him

I know you called and he had the nuts.. so you were like "wtf did I do wrong??"... if you called and he had a lower flush you wouldnt even have bothered to post this.

Lol, but I feel like I could have gotten away from this. I mean why else would he be shoveling money in there after I have shown so much strength?

You didnt show THAT much strength... you just bet 2 streets.. in a small pot and called a big raise.. then checked to him... which doesnt show a lot of strength.

You think if he had 98s he would have checked behind on river?

i don't like the flop check-raise much.
I don't like the turn call much.
Apart from that, this is an easy stack off unless you're uber-deep with huge reads.

I have to go with daven here... I don't like the check raise on the flop either... but my reasoning is probably not as sound as many of the others...

explain your reasoning and find out! either you'll learn something, or find out that your reasoning is sound. Both are good, and everyone here (regs et al) may learn something from what you have to say.

There were mistakes on earlier streets, as others noted, but the only way you can be pissed at the result is if you are totally result-oriented. You have the second nuts, you got your chips into the middle, and you lost to the nuts. That's generally what is supposed to happen when you have the 2nd nuts and someone else has the nuts. Even if you had played the hand correctly, you were doomed to lose your stack.

If you aren't taking these sorts of beats occasionally, you are too afraid of the monsters under the bed.

would just like to point out that villain open limped in the CO, so he's prolly not any good, so he's prolly gonna treat JsTs like the nuts.

but flop c/r is the best way to get villain off of TPGK. just vbet/vbet/vbet is the best way to get 3 streets of value out of all of his random crap that you dominate.

Ok, my reasoning...

Check raising is 'fancy play' in my case, and I avoid fancy play, also I am looking to build a pot in this situation, and checking when ahead leaves the opponent a chance to catch up... I am wanting to bet this, but not price the opponent out of it, so we build the pot while we are ahead...
