I figured I'd pump the flop for value, but the turn sent up flags in my mind telling me what he had. A check/call wouldn't have given me any information, but a raise would've, hence my bet on the turn. Miracle draw on river saved me. Was my slowdown on the turn correct?

I like it. If you are behind, you have 10 outs, and a lot of the time you are not behind. I think a check call on teh river would be correct if your full didn't come through.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

That's kinda a tough decision. I think I would be more inclined to 3-bet the turn, because most people with the straight would probably not cap the flop to keep you from slowing down on the turn. I think the way you played it is fine too though.

Easy turn 3-bet. If he flopped the broadway then good for him. Too many hands you beat and worst case you have lots of outs. Hardly a river miracle.

So 3-bet is the best move even though it probably will get capped.?

Hey, if he 3 bets you on the river, more power to him (not giving you credit for a set). On the flop, you represented a straight or set. The river gave you the boat. If he can't pick up on you on the flop, then go for it. Well played with a nice fish overvaluing KJ suited (and being overly estatic about flopping a flush... probably calling you a fish for hitting the boat on the river, with him capping the bets despite the board pairing... I'm adding him to my buddy list)

Whoa there ben, he didn't overvalue it. He flopped the nut straight and called my 3 bet on the river with the paired board. Just calling instead of raising told me that flags went up in his head that he knew I hit my boat. Villian didn't call me a fish (to my face). He claimed he had a smaller boat.
Thanks for the input guys. Against most opps I'd 3 bet the turn, but something told me to slow down on the turn based on something in pokeredge. I completely neglected the fact I had 10 outs... I was too busy trying to cut my losses because I put him on the made straight.

Sorry, I guess I meant him re-raising your bet on the river (though it seems if he was first, he would of made the initial bet)

"Claimed he had a smaller boat"... curious as to what the other FTR pros think of that (when someone loses, but claims they had an almost as good hand, when that wasn't true)... or should that be a question in the "playing the player" forum... never knew what to make of it

i guess he was trying to make me think i was ahead the whole time. I noticed on a WPT ep from s1, they had a little note saying that poker players tend to lie about their holdings after a hand when mucking. I disregard what I'm told with words and let the cards speak.

I'm going to 3-bet this turn against all but the tightest raisers. Otherwise fine.
