assume the villain is a solid 25/15 player. table is shorthanded.

HAND 1:
Preflop: Hero is BB with J, A.
1 fold, MP raises, 2 folds

HAND 2:
Preflop: Hero is BB with A, 8.
3 folds, SB raises

HAND 3:
Preflop: Hero is BB with A, 3.
Button raises, 1 fold

HAND 4:
Preflop: Hero is BB with 8, Q.
3 folds, SB raises

HAND 5:
Preflop: Hero is BB with 9, J.
2 folds, SB raises

HAND 6:
Preflop: Hero is BB with 9, 8.
2 folds, SB raises

1: raise

2: call or raise depending on read

3: close, probably call, sometimes fold

4: fold

5: call

6: call

Most of these hands are playable against the guy you described in this situation. I have no problem letting them go if the flop is really awful though. The all really require you to play the flop well.
TylerK: its just gambling if i want to worry about money i'll go to work lol

Q high is better HU against a random hand, but I assume a 25/15 has a slightly better than random hand. I want a hand that's likely to be 2 live cards, can make a big hand, and has good implied odds against villain's range if I hit. (For example if the board is QJT and I have 98, villain likely hits something too and I get paid. Not usually so if the board is 765 and I have 43.)

For 5/10 6 max:
1)3 bet
2)3 bet/call
3)3 bet
4)call/fold
5)call
6)call

For 4,5,6
I typically run a check/call flop with any pair, and go from there.
Usually donk bet or checkraise the turn depending on my opponent, and the strength of my hand compared to their range.

But I am crazy.
I tend to overdefend my blind for a metagame ideal that doesn't exist below 5/10. There I fold a lot more.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

BB defense strategy 1:
3bet preflop, bet the flop, bet the turn

BB defense strategy 2:
call preflop, check-raise flop, bet the turn

BB defense strategy 3:
3bet preflop, check-raise flop, bet the turn

so many options!!! i'm all about the betting the turn though because i'm not a big fan of spewing chips on the big streets.
