Read at another forum that he is the best pl omaha player in the world and that he has a big edge in the 200/400 pl game at full tilt but who the heck is he? Is he a known tv pro or just some internet wiz? Just curious and wondering if any of you know.

It must be the name. Just read at another forum that he lost around 700k in a hu session with ivey then quit for a while and came back as nikijedlica. They are saying his game is weaker now. I guess the loss did psycological damage. lol He is a 20yr old kid from austria that has a background in magic the gathering.

Gotta love poker players' egos. Hey I am up 3 million this year, let's play heads up against Phil Ivey (who I have heard is very very good at PLO)!.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

When you are the great and powerfull lord of plo who should you fear? In all fairness to niki he had kicked ivey around in the past. Also according to some a 700k loss is not that big in 200/400 hu plo. This seems to be a pattern. these young wiz kids jump in a game that they are not rolled. Then have to step down after 1 or 2 bad sessions.

I agree, HU PLO is probably one of the sickest games for swings ever.

He's the former MTG champion.
Supposedly very sick.

That's Kai Budde from MTG fame, I've met him, and believe me he's sick in his own right.
It's funny, because I was talking about this with some MTG/Chess friends the other day,
It doesn't surprise me MTG people are going after Omaha, most of them got on the Poker train late (or weren't 21 circa David Williams) and are looking for fertile grounds. A lot of Chess people look at 7 card stud the same way, tho' I think it's because both games have a heavy European influence.
I wouldn't take MTG/Chess players lightly, they are thinking/aggressive players that actually bother to play against "the best of the best" on a regular basis. That's really terrifying when you think about it, how many of you have the balls to knowingly put your money on the table against "the best of the best" on any basis? Maybe once for kicks? I'm sure it's an expensive learning curve, but the end result is priceless if you think about it. And you can bet that they'll all be teaching/bank rolling each other in the future, because that's just how they operate.
I don't think it's arrogance at all, there are a lot of people in low/no paying intellectual sports/games that could have the mental faculties to bust Poker wide open. Moneymaker brought poker into the spot light, people decided to take up poker professionally as a result, and now MTG people are turning 21 (David Williams lead the way) , Chess people are getting disillusioned from their inattention (Carlos Mortenson lead the way) and even video gamers are stepping up to the plate ("Rain" Khan lead the way). Not to mention that most of the material covering poker is out there, but they'll be bringing with them theory, skills and experience from other games poker players aren't ever going to take the time to learn
Sure, it's arrogance that they'll do better in the short run, but in the long run, I'd fear what a Russian Grandmaster of Chess or a Chineese Go player could turn into. I think any one who enters the game from another walk of life is going to have an advantage on those who started playing Poker, because Poker players can get really complacent.

I don't like MTG players in general. But I grudgingly accept they are well suited for a crossover to poker.
That said, Kai is one of the nicest, normal, well adjusted, intelligent and interesting people I have met. Williams is just a cheating fucker. Doesn't seem *evil* from our brief encounters, but I have no respect for cheats.
I too played MTG at a fairly high level and I played in a couple of Pro Tour events, including Rome. MTG people in general are like beyond nerds... if you ever see them at their cliquey best like OMG, they're 10x worse than salsa dancers (LOL)! Of course, there's always a minority of good people who live relatively normal lives.
P.S. I was also an underage state chess champion in my teens. Yes, I totally agree with the lack of attention. But I gave up chess a while before I took up poker, so it wasn't a "cross-over". Nothing wrong with chess players in general. Mainly introverts as you'd expect, but generally quite nice people. Surprisingly social if you can put them in their comfort zone and usually generous and sincere. Definitely not socially inept like their MTG counterparts. I quite enjoy having a barbeque now and then with my old chess buddies. Expect to see a lot of chess players channelling their efforts into poker. Quite a few of my chess buddies have done it successfully. Watch out!
I also was a high level video gamer (in Warcraft III). Went to Korea for the Blizzard sponsored world championships and got my ass handed to me. I was merely good, and I couldn't compete with people who played 10 hours a day and just had natural talent. I couldn't make any friends with gamers. They were polite and cordial, but the language barrier kept me away from the Korea/Japan dominated groups, and the Americans wanted to hang out with each other. I'm not quite sure whether they'll be a lot of successful video game cross-overs. RainKhan is good, and I'm happy for his success, but I never had trouble dealing with him (admittedly he was playing 30 tables to my 6). I'm thinking he'll be an exception rather than the rule.
Interesting isn't it? Games, MTG, chess, poker. I don't think it's a coincidence.
