I dont have the hand history available but it goes like this.
I am at a 10 handed table. I get 8-8. I limp in from middle position and 5 people see the flop (including blinds).
flop - 8-Js-Qs (8 is a different suit).
I check, villain bets, a few people call, I raise, rest call, he 3 bets and I cap.
He could have 9-10(i didnt think of it at that time) and I put him on flush draw.
Turn - Blank.
I bet, he raises and I call.
river - a spade. I check and he bets and I call. he shows a flush. i muck my set.
My question is, Was i incorrect to 3-bet the flop and sweeten the pot for him when I have already put him on a flush draw in my mind ( i discounted that 9-10....if he did, i am going to pay him off anyways).
Do you wait till the river to bet if the flush suit doesnt fall, or should i have raised the turn too. But he wouldnt have folded the turn on four flush anyways.

3-bet the turn. you forgot about the 10 outs you have to improve to a full house. in effect, you're both drawing against each other, only you have a much bigger advantage.

I had a little trouble with this same concept for awhile. It is correct for you both to bet/raise because of the money already in the pot. Seems weird, but it works out.

You are correct to 3 bet the flop - get your money in while you are ahead. I would also raise back on the turn, you are still ahead at this point. The river was just unfortunate.

If you put all your faith in the river, you are up shit's creek

I thought he 3 bet the flop? anyways
He already has odds for the flush draw on the flop so you have to get your money in while you have the best of it so you have to 3 bet/cap. 3 bet the turn, with only one other person left he is not getting his money's worth on his turn raise.
Basically what Hyper said...

[quote="pokerlearner"]I dont have the hand history available but it goes like this.

He could have 9-10(i didnt think of it at that time) and I put him on flush draw.
Turn - Blank.
I bet, he raises and I call.
My play is very different, may not be right.
I usually stick to my rule , 5 peopel see the flop , put someone on a draw of flush , in this case more dangerous as straight is also possible , someone may have a 10 .
Therefore, i won' t raise in turn coz someone is gonna getting good odds to have 2bets , with 5 pp have put money in the flop, not to mention a cap, definately i won't do so.
If the turn is a blank card, I wil bet raise or check raise in turn.
I remember hyper has said sth like this, right ?
Any idea?
