Generally I will play until I am either
a) up a decent amount (30 BB's or so) and then my cards run cold
[typo, usually about 30 not 50 BB's]
b) I lose more than 30 BB's, switch my game up (usually tighter and more passive.. I like stealing blinds too much) and then don't climb back up
c) take a couple bad beats in a row and find myself tilting
This usually keeps my sessions (of 3-tabling 2/4 and/or 3/6) between an hour and 3 hours. I find if I play more than 3-4 hours solid I will start to play very stupid and basically spew money, usually in being too aggressive (after people have figured out that I love to steal blinds).
Any thoughts?

I usually quit if I'm down 25 BB. Otherwise I see how long I can go. It's usually other outside factors that make me quit. Like eating and sleeping.

If I stopped playing when I lost 25BB, Id probably not get to play much and go broke.

I usually only play during the day, so I quit my first session at lunch time. Quit my second session at 2:00 to watch tv until 3:00, and then quit my last session at dinner time So far that seems to be a pretty good way to do it.

This is often the case for me too, I will often come to a table and lose a fair amount before I get a feel for the game, then I work my way out of the hole. This is especially true when I have just recently changed sites to work off a new bonus.

I have no win/loss standard because usually I never hit my extreme high or low, but I do quit when it's time for class. I play in between classes in the school library or something on my notebook. 4 tables of 2/4 for a short run is a good test of how quick i can handle things

if you always end your session when you are down a certain amount you will eventually go broke. You should base your sessions on the number of hands played and how well you are playing.
Anything less than 500 hands is pathetic, and anything less than 1000 is too small to really care.

My average session is probably in the neighbourhood of about 500 hands. 3-tabling it would take 5.5 hours to get 1000 hands, and by then I am usually somewhat burnt out and not at the top of my game.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

I aim at 500-1000 hands a session depending on my time availble. I don't like the thought of stopping once you are up/down 50BB.

I usually stop and take a break if I'm down 50BB. Chances are I'm not playing my top game.
I don't really have an upward side -- but If I go up 100BB or so I'll probably stop playing for the day. Maybe play some SNG's to kill time. No need to give back $400.

That's assuming you lose this certain amount just about everytime you play. Even if it was only 5 BB, you'd start out winning enough times to cover all those times you had to quit at -5 BB.
To me, dropping 25 BB at one table usually means that the conditions are not the best for making money. I'm either not playing my best or maybe the players I'm playing with are just better than me. Whatever the case, I find it's better to quit.
As far as quitting when you're ahead, I'm not sure that there is a good rule for that. Obviously, if you're doing well and beating the other players at the table, you should try to continue to make more. Although sometimes I do find myself not following this advice. Sometimes I feel like I've already accomplished enough for the day and I want to go do something else. This is probably not the best thing to do though.

If you don't feel like playing anymore, you should almost definately not be playing anymore. No matter what the table conditions are, if you are not in the right state of mind to play, you are probably going to do bad. For this reason, it seems like quitting because you feel like doing something else and want to quit is the best reason to quit.
