Ive made several posts on FTR, mostly looking for advice to continue my learning and Ive made a point of reading other posts constantly. I have the privlage of being a student (undergrad) with time to pursue both my studies and poker. My bankroll has gone through swings and I have tried to stay true to long term expectation and a TAG player status as I continue to learn the game.
Enough of random introductions, but I want to know what at what limit through everyones progression that they found the "fishiest" players/tables. It obviously also depends on the site, but in theory I would think that the higher in stakes you go the more dedicated players of the game would be residing. Im currently at the .50/1 level and I feel that these have been some of the fishiest tables I have seen thus far. What do you think?
If you would like to include the site, because that makes your answer more relavent....then by all means do so. Oh and I also apologize for the number of options. Also if your wondering, this is definately a type of spinof from Sheetahs post on whether Limit holdem is still good.

I've gone for 1/2.
In my experience, people playing at the lower stakes tend to be the people who actually understand bankroll requirements (probably because they do alot of reading on here, 2+2, p5's etc). 12 months ago, just before I started playing poker I would have looked at a .25/.50 table and thought "whats the point?".

If you define a fish as someone who plays too many hands, chases with bad odds like single overcards, backdoor straights, etc., then the lower levels are the fishiest. But there seem to be almost as many bad players on the medium levels like 2/4 or 3/6, they just bluff instead of call with their bad hands!
E.g., you raise UTG with AQ and get re-raised by CO. Flop comes AK7 rainbow, you bet and get called. Turn is blank, you bet and get raised. blank on river, you bet, he raises, you call, and he turns over 99. Who's worse, the player who calls down with third pair or the player who throws in a couple of raises with it?

Wow.. You'd bet the turn into a raise with TPTK?
|
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

You just get to know certain players. Not only is he a horrible bluffer, he assumes everyone else is bluffing too. So he raises the river as well "just in case". I'm good here at least 2/3 of the time if not more.
I've got into blind v. blind raising wars with guys where I have two pair and I'm thinking "Does this guy have me beat somehow?" So i just c/c the river and find out he capped with turn with a gutshot.
Players at these levels certainly understand the value of aggression more than the low levellers. A lot just don't understand when to apply it.

Hmm...and somebody coming up from the lower levels and trying to be TAG "knows he's beat" and folds to the bluff...until the player notes start to accumulate: "Villain will check-raise with ear wax."

Oh, no! Not another learning experience!

So basically at the different limits there becomes different breed of fish.
I agree with jibalob that alot of the micro stakes Ive found are made up of players practicing sound bankroll management. And these type of players i find are more likely to study the game and have an udnerstanding of pot size, odds, and semi bluffs.
Im not blasting at limit, as I myself like limit poker better and it constitutes most of my playing time, but i also wonder if more fish swim over to the NL pond for first depositing online when they see all the NL tv time. I know that the fish still exist on FL tables, I play against them all the time, but do you think the NL tv exposure leads to more fish hitting those cash games?

Fish don't last long at NL before they limp back to Limit and try to staunch the bleeding.
