PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)
Preflop: Hero is SB with K , 8 .
7 folds, Hero raises, BB calls.
(Standard.)
Flop: (4 SB) 9 , A , J (2 players)
Hero bets, BB calls.
(What else am I gonna do? He's rarely betting if checked to, I might as well bet and hope he's got a piece.)
Turn: (3 BB) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls.
(Here's the mega non-standard play. My thinking is this: if I bet here, I might get a call, and likely get no more bets on the river. If I check, and it gets checked through, I likely get a river call. So either way, it's a minimum of 1 more bet if I check. I might as well shoot for the checkraise and see if I can get more than the 1 bet. )

Unless I am very confident he bets the turn if I check, I just play it full steam ahead and bet / jam every street.
Your reasoning behind the turn check-raise is a bit flawed because you aren't considering the possibility of him raising if you bet.

Standard Mix-up. Every time you bet the flop and check the turn OOP it can't be a check/fold.
Monkey checked to, monkey bet.
I'm trying to get these lines back into my live game against certain players.

I like it. With that flop he's SO likely to have hit something, or have a strong (flush or straight) draw. You have to bet the flop, it's too suspicious if you don't. Checking the turn looks like flop bet was a scared c-bet, so he's almost certainly going to raise = 2BB, same as raise-call, raise-call. Hopefully he has QdTenC or something and hits on the river!

Yes, but this isn't necessarily the best hand to mix it up with. In this type of situation, I think it's best not to miss an opportunity to bet / 3-bet the turn, since a check-raise will freeze him up with all but his strongest hands. I would rather check a hand to him that can't stand much action anyways, like middle pair or a pair of aces with a weak kicker and no flush draw.

I think this is more about our opponent than it is about the cards. If he's a bet when checked to monkey, then this is a reasonable spot to hit him up.
I agree that the default line here is to mash the bet/raise button a whole lot.

I don't know, how often do you think that happens here with a scary flop? I'd think he'd have to have a set or better. I think the most I lose in that situation is 1BB, plus a little for the times he draws out. I'm pretty sure I'm willing to give that up for the chance to get an extra 2BB, but it really depends on what we think he's holding and how often we think he'll bet if checked to. Bet/bet/bet is definitely my default line here. This was specific to this hand against this player, and I'm still not convinced it was a good idea, even though it worked out like I wanted.
