Prior to your main session, does anyone play a few hands (100ish?) at a lower stake than your usual one, to "get in the game"?

Ive noticed a LOT of times where at the beginning of the session I'm simply not with it and playing a bit less than optimally. I'll drop 40 bets and then once I start playing better I end up grinding back up to even.

Anyone else do this? Think an hour or so pre-game at a lower stake would help me out?

Personally, I'm the exact opposite. I tend to start off playing great and then as I keep playing I must get bored or zoned out or something, because I start making terrible plays. Because of this, I never play for longer than like an hour and a half to two hours in a session. If you are the type of player that starts off playing bad, then yes I think it would make a lot of sense for you to start at a lower stake. You have to do whatever will give you personally the best chance of winning.

I go through periods where I think my thought process is as follows:

1) load up a couple of tables (£25NL usually)
2) see a flop
3) think "well I can't play like a pussy just cos I've only just arrived"
4) make cont bet out of pos against two opps
5) get raised
6) think "I'm priced in to call"
7) call
8) hit top pair good kicker
9) repeat steps 4-7
10) lose half a buyin when dude turns over his inevitable two pair/set

So I don't actually do what you say, but maybe I should. I tend to lose most of what I lose in the first 20 mins I play.

I do better when I am just starting out. I think part of it is not wanting to lose the first pot I play in, so I play pretty tight to start out. If I start building a stack, that's when I loosen up and make more of my bad plays. I think that point comes for me when I hit $40 in a $25 full ring game. I start thinking about how I am a badass and if I bet, they will just fold, then I make the big mistake that takes a chunk of my stack. Funny how an hour's work can disappear in 10 seconds....

Do you rub one off before you get laid to "warm up"?

Give me a damn break... you might get head but that's just a side bonus...

Hehe the point is, you might get a little head before hand playing the same limit but you'll defiantly be getting the gold soon enough...

I mean, dropping limits to worm up to me is rubbing one off where staying at the same limit you might get a teased a little but you'll get there, or you might just skip the bull shit and drill it hard...

I think it makes a lot of sense. 100 hands at 6max is like less than 1/2 hour so its not like your sacraficing a lot of profit.

that would be with the "come hand"...., I presume

you don't wanted a loaded gun....for the following reasons:

1. You can slowplay her set, and squeeze her bottom pair at the same time
2. No fear of spewing all your chips BEFORE you are "all-in"
3.If you are reverse dominated by a leather-bound agro, you can make a "crying call" on the river when your nuts get spanked.
4. If you are really lucky she'll bring a friend and you can have middle position with some multi-way action

PS. If you tend to "limp in" after a big one, then don't warm up.
Also, if you are 21 or younger don't worry - reraising should not be a problem on all streets.

PPS. If hubby comes home you have 2.5 outs (front-door ,back door and 1/2 an out for the upstairs window). If he looks at you funny, and tells you he has 1.5 outs to YOUR backdoor draw, it's time to muck -- you are drawing dead....and you are going to get the "worst of it".

Absolutely classic, this should be saved somewhere in a post hall of fame.
