Ok heres a lil back info, I am a poor college kid and I love playing poker but dont got a lot of experience(play some house games with my friends and stuff every once in awhile)

Anyways I have been playing poker on ultimatbet and paradisepokers play money tables and would like to start playing for real money since I am sick of all the dumbasses pushing up all the preflops.

Heres my questions.
If I were to start with a bank roll or only like $5 and play 2/4cent limit would I not see the jackasses like I see on the play money tables?
What would be the best place to start out on for me?
Is it ok to just call to see the flo even if you have a shit hand at the 4cent level?
Is it ok to call the minimum to see the flop if you got a lot suited like 56 or 57 that range?
Would I actually be able to gain money on such a lowbank roll?

And is there a good program out there(that you are allowed to use) that could tell you like your hand % by looking at the cards in the pot and in your hand?

Thanks guys sorry I am such a noob(I probably wont be for long I got an adictive personality so I plan to learn everything I possibly can, yet I am to poor to actually get a bad gambling addicition)

Hi and welcome to the forum!

First of all, I'm not a limit player myself so I'll leave the strategy to guys like Fnord etc. Anyway I guess that the microlimits are pretty wild, with a lot of players who thinks "Hey a dollar isn't much", even if it is much compared to the blinds.

Try to let go of the money thoughts and just play the best you can, every hand. I think you can make lots of money (err, lots of money compared to the limits) here because of the money throwers.

However, be sure to have a bankroll to handle the swings that will come with madness. Read this http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...pic.php?t=4971 a few times and maybe take some extra cash with you if you are just starting out. (This says 300 times the big bet for limit, that would be at least $12 for 2c/4c limit play.)

But as I said, I am not a limit player and have no excperience at the microlimit limit tables. Feel free to disregard everything I say and wait for some limit players to answer!

Most places have minimum deposit requirements...I don't know if there is a place that will let you deposit only $5 (perhaps there is, but I don't know). I would recommend coming up with $50 (even as a poor college kid, you can probably come up with that much, right?) and depositing that.

Many places offer an initial deposit bonus too, so that will get you started clearing a bonus too. Try to find a place with a 100% match bonus, not something like 20% up to $100. There are 2 reasons for this. 1--Your bonus will be bigger; 2--You want to take full advantage of the X% up to X bonuses by depositing something like $500, so save the poker rooms that require more deposit for maximum bonus until you have a bigger bankroll.

Anyway, if you want to play it safe, go ahead and start at something like 2c/4c microlimit. But with a $50 bankroll and very limited experience, you can probably afford up to 5c/10c ($50 is enough for higher than 5c/10c once you know you are winning).

If you are really interested in learning poker, you must read, read, read. Reading about poker will help you learn the fundamentals in leaps and bounds. Practice gets progressively more important once you know the basics, but reading can teach you the basics very quickly. Post to and read this forum often. Buy some good books, and read them. A word of caution: DON'T mindlessly follow formulas or charts. If you see a chart or formula, learn the reasoning behind it, not the formula or chart itself. This applies especially to the starting hand charts you will find everywhere--use them to check your decision making process; don't use them to make decisions for you.

Shit 50 bucks... I will really have to think about it
Reading is my game I like to play a lot of RPGs and before I even play them I know more about htem than most people who have been playing awhile. Whenever I play a game I usually spend as much time learning about it as playing it.

If I dont care about a deposit bonus or somethign like that what would be my best site to go with and how much?

i would say something like a minimum $25 deposit in a site that has .05/.10 limit would be great. I mean you would really have to try hard to lose $25 at .05/.10

It's a step up from the chase fest that is .02/.04, which is good for your profits, but you need to learn the "texture" of how limit is to be played first.

oh ya, read any kind of low limit hold'em book or advice you can find

PM me
I can give you a site where they give you ten dollars for free. The problem is that their lowest stake tables are 15c/30c
I still managed to get up to fifty dollars though

I also recommend SSH if you understand the basic concepts like EV, value-betting, odds, etc.

Also tell him about instant bankroll. Smallest stakes for party. He'll be under-rolled. But it's like a second chance at making a good run without making a deposit.

Would I be better of playing no limit with like a 15 dollar bank roll?

Playing NL or limit has more to do with your personal preferences and strengths than your bankroll. With a 15 dollar bankroll, you'd be about equally well off playing .02/.05 limit or finding a $1 max buy-in NL table. The toughest part will be finding a site that offers stakes that low where everybody doesn't play basically every hand so the variance can't completely kill you.

You'd be better off trying to scatch more money together. Google instant bankroll party poker and look for a website that'll give you a free 50 bucks for signing up under their affiliate (they make 75 bucks from party for your signup.)

Last nite I played in Paradisepokers freemillion dollar tourney, I think I did pretty good for my skill level. I was in top 150 most of the nite(out of 1390 but then I couldnt catch a hand for a long time. And I made a stupid all in bluff and got called and lost to somome who called my all in with a piar of aces(I had pair of kings) but oh well. I finished 332.
I think the reason I did that was becasue I was starting to get nervous of the 100/200blinds with 25ante with only 6,500 in chips.
But you live you learn.

Your chips divided by the size of the pot when the hand starts. It's also how many orbits you can survive if you fold every hand.

Or you could get a friend to send 5 bucks to you, and you pay them in cash.
