First question would you have played the following hand diffrently. (played at poker champs so no hand histories i will do my best to make it understandable)

ok gona skip detail like player names

ogre 99
lets make a long story short i raised and got 2 callers.
flop 6/9/j 2 diamonds

my hand middle set.

i'm first to act so i bet and we end up caping and we all see the turn.

turn 5 non diamond we cap again but the player in middle position folds afer my first bet. so 2 of us see the river.

river A of diamonds

for some reason this card scared me as it completed a possible flush draw or a set of aces. I know you might say wouldn't he have reraised preflop if he had aces. The thing is i see players limp preflop with aces all the time then play the rest of the hand like they have the stone cold nuts

river action
ogre bets
?? raises
ogre calls

leaving out results for the time being as i do not want results oriented replies

The capped turn scares me more than the A. seems pretty reasonable to me.

If your opp capped the turn, I might just check/call the river depending on a read. As played doesn't look so horrible to me though either.

Sorry i forgot the second question. This is a more general question.

We fast forward to the turn and you feel that you have the best hand but it isn't the nuts so you want to maxamize wins but minimize looses.

You are heads up at this point but you act last. The other guy bets and we can assome from playing him in the past that once he bets the turn he isn't going anywhere so we know he will pay us off on the turn and river which line is best.

raise the turn
then raise or bet the river depending on wether he bets or not when it is his turn on the river

alternate line call the turn bet then raise/bet the river.

To be slightly more detailed lets say you floped middle pair with a good kicker and you bet and he raised and you were geting odds to try and hit 2 pair or trips and you put him on top pair as the board does not offer any flushes and looks to raggedy for a str8. Of course he could have a set. Now on the turn we complete trips or make 2 pair and no flush as possible at this point and a sr8 still seems unlikely but is possible But if we are beaten it's likely by a bigger 2 pair or set if we have 2 pair ourselves but if we have trips then we are really only worried about him haveing a set
