This is probably one of the funniest plays I've discovered in limit (it's also a nice way to win an extra bet):
PokerStars 3/6 Hold'em (6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is SB with 9 , A .
1 fold, MP calls, CO calls, 1 fold, Hero completes, BB checks.
Flop: (4 SB) 9 , 3 , A (4 players)
Hero bets, BB calls, MP calls, CO calls.
Turn: (4 BB) 9 (4 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, MP raises, CO folds, Hero 3-bets, MP calls.
River: (10 BB) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets, Hero raises, MP calls.
Final Pot: 14 BB

I'm not so sure that Villain bets enough here on the river to make it worth trying to get an extra bet, rather than just value betting the river.

Most $3/$6 players are pretty passive and don't raise the turn without being reasonably strong, so I think his play suggests trip 9's. Even if he just has an ace, it seems odd that he'd just show it down when I make a weak check on the river.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

You think with this action that's he's checking behind on the river more than 50% of the time? I'd guess that, after raising the turn, he's betting the river when I check at least 75% of the time.

Meh, a fair point given this action. I guess I'll rephrase, trying to do it if he doesnt raise you on the turn is suicide.
If I had trips I'd do a, "What the fuck is he doing?" bet/fold, which I guess doesn't net you any less than a bet/call line.

His call of the three-bet on the turn is what makes me think this play won't get the bet you are seeking over 50% of the time.
Not many people will three bet a draw there. I woulda checked behind.
