Last night I tried playing $1/$2 at UltimateBet for the second time. 10-handed table.
On one hand, I limped in from EP with AJ. MP RPF'ed. I had no read on this guy other than he was not a maniac. BB called. I called.
Flop came 44A and I checkraised the RPF'er. He 3-bet it. Damn.
I called, thinking there was no way he had a 4 but he could have AA/AK/AQ. If he were a maniac, I might also put him on crappy pockets like 55. I called hoping to catch a J, but turned a 9.
Pot was about $12, heads-up. If you were in this spot, would you check-fold or call the guy down for $4? Or perhaps ram-n-jam it on a bluff?
Comments appreciated.

I'm new to hand analysis on FTR...with that said:
I would slow down here...being out of position, getting 3-bet to a CR, and looking for 3 outs. He's gotta have AQ or AK, unless he's a maniac--thus a read helps.
Without a read on a TAg or rock, I'd probably check/call down for information and a possible PP of KK or QQ. Against an established TAg, I've laid this down before.

Against my better judgment, I check-called the turn. River was a K, giving me AA44K. I put him on AK, but on the chance he had AQ, I check-called and prayed for a chop. He turned up AKo.
Next time, I'll trust my gut.

In limit, AJ is probably an okay two-bet hand. When he 3 bets your check raise, You gotta get the heck outta dodge. He raised from early position so you've gotta have him on a PP or strong ace (assuming he's a decent player.) Your CR is gonna scare off most hands you can beat. Minimally, I'd have him on AQ when he 3 bets back to you. Praying for the split on the river is -EV move all the way... but you know this already.
