capping with the draw seems iffy because you don't know if he's betting the turn with a monster or checking with intent to raise.

My thinking was that a random $5/$10 opponent almost always just has top pair when he bet / 3-bets like this (considering they default to slow-playing anything stronger), so when I cap, he will generally check the turn fearing an overpair or better.
It's basically a free card cap since my initial play failed, and I'm already calling the 3-bet.

i actually see that play a lot at 3/6 and 5/10 guys capping for a free card on the flop, anymore if i know they will do that i donk the turn with a hand...
but i think that your play is marginal +EV however it will increase variance a lot, i don't see anything wrong with it if you don't mind big swings...

You put in 2 bets on the flop. ANd this is hoping he doesn't cont. aggresion on the turn. If you just call the donk and a turn bet that's 1.5 bets.
Lets assume that If we hit on the river we pick up 2 bets.
SO lets go back to the hand; we put in 2 bets on the flop to take a free card on the turn. So we put in more bets when we are behind on the flop to pick up the same amount of bets(if we just passively call our draw) when we hit on the river. This sucks.
Another play was that we just call his 3-bet on the flop, and you know he's firing another bet on the turn. 2.5 bets. So this sucks more.
This is really the only thing we hope for: that we raise for a free card and it works. So we'd put in 1 bet but check behind on the turn and hit on the river. Villian bets and calls the river we pick up 2 bets.
I just think without reads this isn't a profitable play. Better to play it straightforward against unknowns.
