Keep in mind I play 6 max 95% of the time…
In an attempt to tighten up and work on playing more aggressively when appropriate, I noticed a trend in my play that I was wondering if others have experienced.
I think we all start out with natural tendencies, and for me it was the tendency to be semi-loose and passive. As I started to tighten my starting requirements and work on my aggression, these two created some synergy, if you will, in that because I was playing less hands, I was hitting more flops, and was therefore able to be more aggressive . This is not a revelation by any means, as many books and articles discuss this.
While sometimes this would result in less “action,” I found that stealing opportunities and the ability to claim orphan pots improved, and bluffs and semi-bluffs became part of my play.
Anyway, that’s just a preamble to my question.
When I started working on being more aggressive, I expected that I would progress relatively equally upwards across pre-flop, post-flop, turn and river play. What I found, though, was that my aggression did not increase that way. Instead, my PRF increased, with a slight rise in post-flop aggression, and little change in turn and river aggression. As I played more hands I found that my post-flop aggression increased, with a slight increase in turn aggression, but no change in river aggression. Now, I am seeing my turn aggression increase, with a slight increase in river aggression.
I guess my question is ....did others of you experience a similar trend as you became more aggressive? That is, a bottom up increase as opposed to an across the board increase…To me, it seemed to be a matter of being confident with my aggression, and that it was harder to overcome the urge to remain passive on later streets.
Any thoughts or discussion on this would be welcome.
