Been contemplating moving up to 1/2, but was wondering what the differences are at party between .5/1 and 1/2...

If you got the cash, play 2/4 instead. Or move to PokerStars if you wanna play 1/2. The Party 1/2 rake structure is just horrible.

The 1/2 hold'em there sucks. PokerStars is softer.

I hated every minute I had to spend playing 1/2. The rake is high, the games are so much worse than the 0.5/1 and table selection is hard. But once you adjust to the players it is a crushable limit.

Go for it, I'm all for taking shots, the first time I took a shot at 1/2 I had a $300 roll.

In short: 1/2 = A lot tighter preflop, a bit tighter post-flop, more aggressive and there are less retards.

If moving to 1/2 you might want to consider the 6-max tables. Although some of the tougher competition tends to play shorthanded, this is 1/2, so it's not a big problem, since 1/2 is the lowest 6-max limit that Party offers. If you find the right tables I think the 1/2 6-max games are far more profitable than the 1/2 full ring games. And more fun too.

Thanks for your opinions guys, I’m going to relax down at .5/1 for a little longer, looking into doing some whoring at a few sites, I'm considering if I play 1/2, it will be like Fnord suggest at a different site other then party, I’ll let you guys know my progress thanks for all your suggestions and input on the 1/2 game if anyone has anymore input or suggestions I’m willing to hear it still...

Well so far I've only played 500 hands at 1/2 full. I think it is definately beatable however not for the same winrate as 0,5/1,0 at all. I hope to come out +2BB/100 but who knows maybe I'm losing can't really tell anything yet.

BUT THE RAKE IS INSANE after 500 hands I've payed 32$ of rake

at 0,5/1,0 I've payed 190 at 7000 hands.

190/(7000/500) = 13,57

32/13,57 = 2,3

If my calc is correct the rake is probably more than double of 0,5/1,0

I'm looking at the Party Poker rake structure page at http://www.partypoker.com/games/rake.html.

It says at .5/1 a rake of $.50 is charged for $5 pots. At 1/2, a rake of $.75 is charged for $12 pots and a rake of $1 is charged for $20 pots. I must be missing something, because these figures lead me to believe that 1/2 has a better rake structure than .5/1.

Can someone explain to me how it is worse?

Seems like the forum automatically links the text "Party Poker" so that when i try to include that phrase in a linked URL it screws it all up. Is there any way to disable this auto-linking "feature"?

Party

Structure for .5/1 and 1/2

$5 - $0.5 (10%!)
$12 - $0.75
$20 - $1

However, at 2/4 it's $1 once the pot reaches $20 (at 2/4 some pots won't hit this) and $.5 per $10 after that until it hits a $3 cap.

Poker Stars

Strucuture for .5/1 and 1/2

$5 - $.25
$.25 per $5 after that until it hits a cap of $1.

Wow, didn't realise the difference was so big.

It's annoying that sites don't really compete on price since fish don't understand/care about rake.
