Hi Folks
GONE GOLFING
Hi folks. This will be my last post for a while. It's golf time and had to make a decision on how to spend my free time. I don't think I'm capable of playing just a few hours of LHE a week, so I am taking a break until fall and concentrate on my golf. Also, home renovations are looming.
I also want to take this time to apologize for what were some out of line and out of character posts. When I first joined FTR, I was relatively new to the game. I came from playing blackjack, and I always did good at home poker games with my friends.
When I started online holdem I had early success, and thought I would share some of my insights with the "unenlightened" masses. When I look back at some of these posts, I feel quite embarrassed. Not only did I know what I was talking about (which is bad enough), I felt the duty to share my thoughts with others. Thanks to Fnord, Hyper, Trikflow, Jeff and others for setting me straight.
The next phase in my game came the losing streak that eventually catches up with all fish, me included. Then I started to open my mind to books, websites, PokerTracker and anything I could get my hands on. I found that much of my rationale for decisions was counterintuitive. What I instinctively thought I should do, was just the opposite of what I should be doing. When I think about it now, I think some of my early success came by just confusing the hell of opponents - lol. I can remember doing well against some very good players, who subsequently gave me more action because of my poor (but lucky) play. When they started to push me around, I left the table.
Anyway, when I started I thought I was better than 80% of the players out there. Now that I have invested thousands of hands and read as much as I can, I believe am probably, at best, an average or below average player. I believe that if I am totally honest with myself, I am a winning player only if I am patient enough to find and play under the right conditions. I also need to stay away from the types of players that can overwhelm me. If you throw me in random game of 10/20 you would be wise not to bankroll me, but when I can pick my spots (6Handed), I can hold my own. So, that is my confession of humble mediocrity.
I plan on doing so more reading this summer, and hope to fill some gaps in my game and come back in the fall ready to play a better-rounded and more informed game.
I want to thank in particularly Fnord, Hyper and Jeff and Trikflow. Also, Chez, TylerK, Room, Rilla, Chicago Kid, Tripps, Nehmer, RiverMonkey, SharkBait, Lonnie, Demparidigm, and honsheung for their posts. My apologies to anyone I missed.
ElipseJeff, I hope you meet your 40K goal. Fnord, keep Mutli-tabling away, and I hope that your wife becomes better than you so you can become a kept man and buy some more of those Hugh Hefner bathrobes.
Thanks folks, and have a great summer. I know traffic is low on FTR compared to 2x2 and other sites, but I really hope the regulars keep the momentum going. Let quality pevail…..and talk to you all in the Fall.

My first boss once told me that getting his black belt was like climbing a mountain, reaching the top then looking around to see that there are so many more, taller, mountains to climb. I think this applies to most disciplines. You learn a little, get dangerous and think you know it all. Then one day you "get it."
Good luck at golf *gag*. I just never understood the attraction to that game...

while i was never the "i think i know everything you know nothing now listen to me" kinda dude, i was the "what does preflop mean" kinda dude.
your admittance that you're probably only mediocre is already leading you down the path of a successful poker player that 90% of players can never walk.
